    Yep. HD-DVD = BetaMax (although most of you on here are too young to remember Beta)

    I just bought an HD-DVD player. But I got it off Ebay for only $40 shipped to my house. RCA, too. Hehehe. I don't mind. Later, QD.

    lol yeah people are talking like OMG YOU GOT THE WRONG FORMAT LOL YOU FAIL.... wtf. Both formats are pretty much the same... but companies and consumers just flock to the popular Sony because -- well... they're Sony lol. if you can afford both, who the f*ck cares. this only affects the people who could only buy either hd-dvd or blu-ray, and went with hd-dvd.

    Is it that big of a differance between bluray and regular dvd? I know when you pause the movie it really shows the quality when in still picture but once you play I dont see a HUGE differance, its pretty minor if you ask me :/ :/

    oh there's definitely a difference between regular old dvd and blu-ray.... but as far as blu-ray and hd-dvd go, they look pretty much the same. If you sat someone down in front of a tv and showed them the same scene of a film twice (once in hd-dvd, and once in blu-ray), i guarantee they wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

    Standard 480p DVD vs 1080p Blu-Ray on an HDTV is VERY different and distinct.

    I mean, the resolution difference alone is huge.

    DVDs = 480
    Blu-Ray and HD-DVD = 1080

    I dunno - filming needs to come up to par with Blue Ray. I saw Ice Age 2 on Blue Ray and ****ing HATED IT. Seriously. You could easily make out what was the background image and what was the CGI foreground.

    LOL... to think I actually thought HD-DVD would take it in the beginning....

    However, I still bet on the right format in the end, as I bought a PS3 and into Blu-ray this past Christmas.... guess I made the right choice after all

    well i've got a sony 46'' xbr3 and ps3 with hdmi cable.... I think im sitting too far away from the tv to make out the extra detail.

    I watched ratatile (sp?) tonight at my cousins and yeah it was pretty amazing.

    Any huge differance between a fullblown stand alone bluray player vs. ps3?

    Learning everyday.
