1) I specifically stated that I wasn't looking for somewhere to drive like an idiot. I was looking for somewhere to safely test the limits of the car's handling at relatively low speeds. I don't want to do 50 mph drifts around light poles, I want to break the tires loose at 15-20 mph in a tight turn and watch how the car behaves when I correct for it without slamming the side of my car into something or damaging someone's property. I plan on replacing springs and swaybars in the next few weeks. It'll be like driving a different car in some ways. I'd like to feel those differences for myself, instead of just driving around knowing that I'm going to oversteer more.
2) There's nothing wrong with taking it to the track, but an autocross event, if I'm not mistaken, is to get around the track quickly, not lose control of the car and go careening through cones because someone didn't really know when the car was going to stop doing what you wanted it to do.
