Teen shot by police recruit identified
    No charges filed against ex-Marine

No charges have been filed against an Atlanta Police recruit who shot and killed a teenage boy who allegedly tried to rob him of a laptop computer, authorities said.

Forest Park Police continued their search Sunday for a second person who may have acted as a lookout in the alleged robbery attempt.

DeMario Jackson, 14, of Atlanta, was killed outside the Parkside Crossing apartments by the unidentified Atlanta Police recruit, who told police the teen tried to rob him about 12:15 a.m. Saturday.

Forest Park police Lt. Amy Wright said Jackson suffered more than one gunshot wound.

According to the recruit, Jackson "was definitely not alone," Wright said.
The recruit told police that Jackson pulled a gun on him as he sat in his vehicle in the parking lot of the apartment complex. He was logged on because the complex offers free wireless Internet service, Wright said.

The recruit said he heard a tap on the driver's side window and looked up to see Jackson standing next to the car. Wright said the recruit believed Jackson wanted his laptop. The recruit could not roll down his window because it was broken, so he began to open the door, Wright said.

As the recruit stood up, she said, he grabbed a handgun that he had at his side and hid it with the laptop. Then the recruit fired at Jackson, killing him.

The recruit, who police said they would probably not identify until Monday, had been in the Marine Corps and lives at Parkside Crossing. She said he is attending the Atlanta police academy.

Wright said the department's investigation continues but that the shooting appears to be self-defense.

I know what you mean but surprisingly, alot of time parents have a different impression of their children and are completely unaware of what is going on in their kids' life.

Oh for some reason I thought he was passenger in a cop car maybe doing ride alongs while the deputy was out of the car doing something else. At least thats what the news last night made it sound like. Regardless, doesn't change much as far as the audacity of something like that.

I know that but people are stupid and lawyers will try to find a way around it. That's what they are paid to do

It's pretty black and white IF it is ruled self-defense. That is the WHOLE point of adding that code. To make it cut and dry for the most part.

With that said, who is going to pay for the lawyer? Who will make the effort to hire one? The parents of the kid? Yeah, okay...

Its just weeding out the Dumb ones. Its natural selection.Would you want someone that dumb to breed? One less we would have to pay for down the road.I think while doing the community a favor you should get some kind of tax deduction for it.Just a little thought from me.

I'm not a bleeding heart liberal by any means BUT it could very well have been
that he came from a single parent household where the mother probably works
multiple jobs to support this kid and some siblings.

    OR

It could be just like you've said.....

Either way, it's a fuked up ending...
Too many kids end up like this because of no positive influences in their lives.

Hoping these kids die isn't the answer because when one dies, another is born waiting to take his or her place in these fuked up circumstances.

Teen shot by police recruit wanted in synagogue robbery

    By BETH WARREN
    The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
    Published on: 02/11/08

The 14-year-old boy who was killed when he tried to rob an Atlanta police recruit with a shotgun this weekend also was being sought by police in DeKalb County for an armed robbery at a synagogue.

DeKalb County police were searching for Demario Jackson of Atlanta for allegedly breaking into Ner Hamizrah Synagogue on Lavista Road with a friend Jan. 31 and robbing a congregation member at gunpoint, said Mikki Jones, spokeswoman for the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.

On Thursday, DeKalb fugitive squad members took out warrants charging Jackson and another minor, whose name has been withheld by police, with armed robbery and burglary, Jones said. Atlanta police soon helped DeKalb find and arrest the unnamed suspect, who was in Atlanta, but Jackson remained at large.

On Saturday, Jackson walked up to a man sitting in a car typing on a laptop at a Forest Park apartment complex and tried to rob him of the computer early Saturday morning, Forest Park police said. The man turned out to be police recruit Mohamadreza Rashad, who was formerly in the Marine Corps. Rashad, who lives at the Parkside Crossing apartment complex on Jonesboro Road, pulled his handgun and fired, killing the teen, Forest Park police Maj. Chris Matson said.

Inside Jackson's pockets, police found keys to a gray 2006 Pontiac G6 reported stolen in December from the owner's East Point driveway, Matson said. The teen's suspected lookout ran from the area and has not been identified. Forest Park police officials have said the shooting seems to be self-defense, but their investigation is ongoing.

A woman who identified herself as the teen's mother said Monday she wasn't at the scene when her son was killed and she didn't know what happened and couldn't talk anymore. A man later reached at the same home, on Fisher Road in Atlanta, also declined to comment.
