Default Z06 hot laps the Nurburgring

Jan Magnusson, driver of the C6R Le Mans class winning car, drove 4 hot laps in a pre production Z06 recently. How good is the car? Lets just go down the Nurburgring Hall Of Fame.
Porsche Carrera GT (450,000)- 7 min. 32 sec.

Chevrolet Corvette Z06-7 min 42 sec

    Porsche 996 GT2- 7 min 42 sec

    Pagani Zonda S- 7 min 44 sec

Lambo Murscielago- 7 min 50 sec

    Lambo Gallardo - 7 min 52 sec

    Mercedes-Mclaren SLR- 7 min 52 sec

Chevrolet Corvette C6-7 min 59 sec

    Porsche 911- 8 min 07 sec

Dodge Viper GTS- 8 min 10 sec

These numbers were taken from Motor Trends new magazine. The new Z06 turned this time on treaded tires not slicks. As you can see the new Z06 can definately live up to the hype.

Of course it is slower than the Z06, it only has 415hp compared to the 500hp of the Z. Did you expect anything less?

I'm just picking on ya. Yours is still a Porsche though and that's something that can't be argued with. I would imagine the Z is also a good bit lighter than the GT2 as well.

Yes. The GT2 is around 3200lbs and has (depending on year) 455 or 472hp for the 996 gen that was tested.

It's more than just the hp numbers that have it ahead... I guarantee you take my car out there with it's shitty suspension I'd be spinnin' out on every turn and probably come in about 10 mins lol.

I just thought that I would post this since we had a very good discussion thread about the Z06's merits a little while back. I think that this car is the ultimate dollar for dollar sports car being made today and it will be sold out as soon as it comes available. Whether it be for 60,000 or 80,000 it is still the best bargain available on an unbelievably amazing car. Nothing comes close that's less than 125,000 so how can you not consider it an astounding value as well as just a plain out amazing car regardless of price.

I wonder what 400-500 HP turbo civic with 1.5ft wide, soft compound tires would do? would be interesting to see.

Probably not all that great. Remember, the nurburgring is both tight turns and long straight aways. It would lose A LOT of ground on the straight aways.

The only thing about that is Me, Vteckidd, and you could all buy a Z06 plus one for each of our best friends and all six of us turn 7min 42 sec laps for the same amount that we could buy one Carrera GT for. lol. Hell for 450k that bitch better have some mechanical lips that extend out of the dash and suck my dick while I'm circling the track.

    It's still a chevy.

I mean not doubting it is the cheapest/fastest, but its still gonna be common. I mean you pull up in a porsche 996 and a guy next to you has a vette, who do you think will draw more attention? And isn't that the point of owning exotics? Eh...

    It's still a chevy.

Well then I'm assuming your "it's still a chevy" comment was a joke... in which case I'm not referring to you... just can't stand people that hate certain cars just cause they are domestic. I'll respect any bad ass car, regardless of where it's made.

I am so glad to hear you say that Hyper! Most mustang owners are usually so damn gung-ho about Ford. I respect the hell of the mustang even though I drove 2 Redneck-Rocs for a total of 4 years.

Yup... Grew up in a Ford hating family. I just couldn't pass up the cheap horsepower out of fox body mustangs, so I went against the family and bought one = ) then 2... then 3 lol. But nahh my real love is old Chevy's.... or old domestics in general, chevelles, chargers, cuda's, camaros, nova's, etc.

I've always loved foxes but my ex hated them. "They look like that other stupid car that you like (Grand National), it looks like a stupid box."
I dumped the bitch for that comment. j/k
And a side note... never leave GTO out of that list again please.

oh trust me... the list could of gone on and on and on lol... the late 60's firebird, demon, gto, challenger, bel air, amx (yes... lol), god... too many late 60's early 70's cars that I love.. But I will always take a 1970 Chevelle LS-6 over any car = P

but tahts just my opinion. i already posted PAGES on why the Z06 is the BEST PRODUCTION car ever produced. Porshe and lambo, and ferrari owners will still say its a chevy, so what. that chevy out performs YOUR CAR THAT YOU PAID 30-80K$ more for, whos the idiot now
Since when are Porsches drag strip cars? We shall see what performance figures that the 997TT puts out. Remember, the C6 Z06 isn't in the same generation as the 996TT (my car). The C5 Z06 is, however. The new, 997TT should put out some impressive numbers. The C5 Z06 was dead even with the 996TT at the Nurburgring given one publication that I saw on the vette board (7:56, but I cannot confirm, deny the accuracy), but I remember seeing that it scored a 7:58 or perhaps just over 8:00. We'll see what the new one does (apples to apples comparison if you will).
