Since when are Porsches drag strip cars? We shall see what performance figures that the 997TT puts out. Remember, the C6 Z06 isn't in the same generation as the 996TT (my car). The C5 Z06 is, however. The new, 997TT should put out some impressive numbers. The C5 Z06 was dead even with the 996TT at the Nurburgring given one publication that I saw on the vette board (7:56, but I cannot confirm, deny the accuracy), but I remember seeing that it scored a 7:58 or perhaps just over 8:00. We'll see what the new one does (apples to apples comparison if you will).

No, nobody was owned. I was just trying to explain an "apples to apples" comparison. The Porsche GT2 (996), at 472 hp, did it just as fast as the Corvette C6 Z06. The Porsche GT2 (996) came out in 2002 I think. That's 3 years prior to the C6 Z06 and it is still just as fast.

If you want do compare apples to apples, it goes like this:

Porsche 911 Turbo (996) is to the C5 as the Porsche 911 GT2 (996) is to the C5 Z06 as the Porsche 911 turbo (997) is to the C6 as the Porsche 911 GT2 (997) is to the C6 Z06. I mean, the Porsche 911 turbo (996 or 997) isn't made for the track like the C5 or C6 Z06's. Granted, the 911 turbo (996) performed as well as, if not better than the C5 Z06, but it wasn't made for that. The 911 GT2 (996) was made for the track much like the C5 Z06 was. The 911 GT2 (997) is going to be made for the track like the C6 Z06 is (which can only TIE the previous gen 911 GT2 (996) version).

B. If you truly are trying to explain that the cost of the 911 isn't justified, I can easily introduce you into advanced R&D, hand built design, exotic metals, parts, etc that will explain the cost. There IS NOT a price to power formula. It does not work that way. There is more to "price" than just how fast it goes.

I saw the article as I was waiting to get my haircut 2 weeks ago. The C5 Z06 beat the 996TT by a second......I remember looking for my gen car that is why I remember.

Still a C5 Z06 and 996TT are so close in comparison as far as performance it's sick! Only REAL difference is price and emblem on the hood!

maybe i was too broad in my generalization, truth be known i dont know alot about older porsches and specs, i drive a honda.

and i love your car, but if i had 200000 to spend, i would spend it on a vetter and a house, rather than a porsche. hell i used to be best friends with the lead tech of Ferrari Of Scotsdale in arizona. it was a joint dealership and they sold Astin Martin and porsche as well. He would call me on certain days cause thats where they would store the Ferrari Challenge cars for tear down and rebuild/inspection. There was a 550, 355 and a 360 all in the showroom floor. and you know which car i would have chosen out of that whole dealership? a blue porsche they had there with soft grey leather interior, carrera 4. I like german interior so much more than Italian

Well, if he really wants to compare, he can put the C6 Z06 up against the Porsche 911 GT2 (996). They both ran the exact same time on the ring (7:42). The 911 GT2 (996) is the race version of the 911 turbo (much like the Z06 is the race version of the vette). The GT2 runs ~$190,000. Comparing the new Z06 to that would be more acceptable. I will say this, though, the 997TT and 997GT2 will be interesting.

The new C6 Z06 is 505hp and the older GT2 was ~455hp. The newer, post 2002 Model Year version I think, was around 472hp give or take.

Fair enough. All motor is nice, I give it that. However, there is just something about the spooling of the turbos that is music to my ears. That and the sensation of when full boost kicks in. Talk about a kick in the ass, so to speak.
