    Default Good news About Drought

I was reading this morning that the High Pressure that was holding over our region the past few months keeping us dry and causing the drought has brokwn down, which is why the past few weeks we have been getting the rain we have been getting, so they say that is a great sign that we are getting "Normal" weather again.

It will take months of this normal weather to get us out of the drought but atleast we have a light at the end of the tunnel and we could get back to a normal weather pattern.

My question is I wonder if when the lake gets to a level it was at when we were just on Water Restrictions will they let us go back to the odd/even days or if they will keep us locked out till it fills totally back up.

I've been out of the loop on this subject for a bit now. Are we still pumping water down to Florida?

the lake is accually up a little from where it was its lowest.. It will still take at least 10 feet of water to be safe to really play in the lake again though. Right outside of baldridge marina there is a stump about 2 feet under the water and about 2 boats a day rip there bottom up or screw up there outdrive.. so, its low enough that its not safe to be out there..

i hope it keeps raining like it has, every evening is FINE with me!!

I have been taking mine to a hand car wash in Alpharetta paying a damn monthly deal there, I hate that when I have a nice drive way to wash my car in and I cant do it. I really hope when it gets to a certain point they atleast go back to odd/even water restrictions. I cant see us going through the summer with out being able to water the grass either, that will screw up alot of shiat!!

Since the end of the year, the drought-plagued areas of north Georgia have received plentiful rainfall and there's more on the way.

Does this mean the drought is over?

Is it possible that as we turned the page on last year we've also turned the page on the drought?

"There’s no way it's over,” assistant state climatologist Pam Knox said emphatically Thursday. Still, she likes what she sees - a more normal winter weather pattern.

"We’ve finally seen that this high pressure system that's been over us for long periods of time has broken down, at least temporarily,” Knox noted, “at least temporarily. “So, we're getting a lot more of this action coming in."

In Georgia, we’ve been influenced by a weather feature called La NiÃąa, which has set up in the Pacific Ocean. Knox calls it the rock in the river. "Where the rock is in the river this year is diverting storms away from us," she said.

The strength of La NiÃąa is peaking right now.

A number of scientists have issued their forecasts as to how much longer we'll be under the influence of La NiÃąa here in the southeast. Many of those predictions seem to indicate that she will have loosened her grip by this coming July.

And without that rock in the river, maybe Georgia will get the tropical storms that usually brush the state, but didn't last summer and fall.

"In Georgia, up to fifty percent of summertime rain can come from tropical systems,” said Knox.

Knox advised waiting until the winter is over before we start talking about the end of the drought. "Every rain is a good rain, right now,” she said. “I think we have a long way to go before we break the back of this thing."

Knox said what we need to break this drought is a long period of slow, steady rains to soak deeply into the ground.

at the rate Atlanta is growing, and the lack of planning for obtaining more water we'll never get rid of the ban.
