Default the king is dead... bye bye GT-R

The king is dead, long live the king! Lexus’ long-awaited LF-A has unofficially smashed the lap record at Germany’s Nürburgring, with a time of seven minutes, 24 seconds. That beats Porsche’s new GT2 by a second and makes the Lexus the King of the ’Ring. Company insiders have revealed that a 4.8-litre V10 – co-developed with Yamaha – powered the record-breaking test mule. It revs to 9,000rpm and pumps out 552bhp. Combined with a highly aerodynamic body, it should enable the LF-A to hit 210mph.

Uhh, no its not. Its meant to be a Ferrari competitor. Acura has not damn idea wtf they are doing with the NSX. We saw an ugly front engine V-10 concept and it got laughed at by the press and enthusiasts. They are BACK to the drawing board.

It's weird how Toyota likes to have Yamaha develop heads for them.

Depending on the cost, it is a hot looking car. Much better than the GTR. I am still waiting to see what Honda does with the NSX. I might have a new car in my signature soon.

all i have to say is... it was only a matter of time before Lexus conquered the performance world. the ultimate driving machine what? the gtr what? ok ok.. maybe im getting a little ahead of myself, but this is some truly remarkable ****. Lexus has never been considered to be a perfomance driven machine.. this changes everything.. it is revolutionary!!

not really because that car will be a thousand more than its competitors whose cars are not that far behind.

They say $100-150k. I'm going to guess $130-140k; about 2x the price of a GTR.

Looks nice, and I'm a Lexus fan, but still looking foward to the new NSX more.

And with the NSX being the last of the 3 most likely to be produced, they have time to make some changes to make it faster and more powerful.

    a $130,000 Lexus comapred to a $70,000 GTR

thats like comparing a $80000 z06 Vette to an RSX.

Thats like a Ferrari compared to a G37.

This lexus will be badass, but lets not get ahead of ourselves

i feel ya.. and i wasn't really doing a direct comparison.. but you have to respect the fact that it beat the porsche gt2 and all of the other supercars out there. Lexus doesn't have a "history" with building supercars so this is a huge feat in my eyes.

i also am looking forward to the new nsx but at the same time, honda usually looks for a well balanced car vs a high hp machine... maybe things will change, but i doubt it.

as for the Lexus, and as mentioned above, you get what you pay for and in this case, im sure reliablity will follow as well unlike many of the other cars at this price level.

Price is not the issue. The issue is what car is FASTEST on the Ring.

Is the GT-R the best bang for the buck? Hell yeah.

The LF-A is pure, RWD, V-10 N/A, lighter and sounds like a F-1 car with a 9k redline.

The GT-R is electronic madness that anyone can drive fast. The car is that good!

Once a final production version does this same lap time, then start your cheering. For now its just a test mule.

Sweet car. Looks badass to boot.

Like most have said, it shouldn't be compared with the GT-R. A comparison to the GT2, F430, SLR, Gallardo, is more like what it should be compared to. When you talk about reliability issues, what issues? You can't expect a high dollar performance car to not have issues. People buy them to go fast, and that comes with a price.

You've got to think some though....of all the long ass straights on the Nordschleife, it would have smoked the GT2 with a 210+mph V10, but the margin was only a second.

Some of you may be thinking, well damn...it probably doesn't handle for ****, but the Nordschleife tests high speed cars. Plain and simple. It's not easy getting a car to turn @ 175+

When do they plan on producing the car?

Just stating that a high speed car can easily overcome a car with similar characteristics, but has less top end on the ring. That's something you can't deny when the main straight is nearly 3miles long.

    Umm, not exactly...

"These lap time were measured under different levels of scrutiny under various conditions, track lengths, drivers and preparation time."

With that said, it was a 600hp M3 CSL...which is a HIGHLY tuned car:
