    Default Very Sad

Ya know this time of year you tend to think of how some people have it in life, and tonight was one of those nights. We ordered Papa Johns for dinner and our doorbell rings about 45 minutes later and the delivery person is a little old lady in her 70's, Thats sad enough but then to have to work on such a cold night at that age, That really bothers me. I feel for anyone in thier 70's who has to work but as a delivery driver, That just is not right.

good. atleast shes not living of our taxes. She shouldve kept her **** straight back in the day and made sure she saved for retirement.

It makes me happy when I see people that age working..I respect that. like i said, they could be leaching of the goverment.
just shows, how many lazy people we have in this country.

Even if she was living off Social Security, she paid into it her whole life, so she would deserve to collect it.

Whos to say people didnt save? This economy is bad the past few years, many people have lost MUCH if not all of thier savings.

Damn, I feel bad when I see stuff like that too Especially around this time of year. Not that the season makes any bit of difference but yeah. A lot of times people like that have a story to tell and have lived a hard life probably. Hell a lot of people are one paycheck away from being that way too , but they get comfy in their lifestyle and dont pay mind to folks like that.

But Julio, you dont know her story, she probably did have her "****" straight, but anything can happen that can change your life forever. Cant say it cant happen to you or anyone here.

Yup, there are people who save and have millions, and loose it in a heartbeat, Cant always assume someone didnt have thier **** straight. EVERYONE has a story and ANYONE of us can loose everything in a heartbeat.

Just to play Devil's Advocate a little, what if she worked as a delivery driver by choice? No one's going to hurt an older person usually, and the money can be pretty good. If you enjoy driving then it's not exactly a horrible way to supplement whatever retirement you might already have from other things like pensions and retirement funds. Then again, it's also possible they never saved up any money for retirement and have to work because of that. I don't feel bad for anyone who has to work for a living and makes the choice to work in a profession. If they trully don't enjoy their job then I feel they should move to something they do enjoy. Being a Wal-mart greeter for example. Or any of a hundred other jobs that I see "senior citizens" doing every day. Hell, my grandfather poured concrete in Atlanta for 20 plus years, pouring floors and foundations on a number of more prominent buildings all around Atlanta and poured 'crete before that. He's 75 now and only retired about 6 years ago from working five days a week, 12 hours a day starting at 4 or 5 in the morning most days and working year round, when the company he worked for literally FORCED him to retire because of a medical condition. He almost went to work for another company before my mom talked him out of it.

Like I said, I'm only playing Devil's advocate for some of that, but I trully don't feel bad for anyone who is working. I feel bad for those who want to work but cant (disabled, bad situations, lacking job training for new career) but not for people who work. Just...*shrug* personal feeling, I guess. I do hope she keeps warm though.

On a sidenote: I've noticed alot of pizza delivery people in the Kennesaw area (especially Papa Johns actually now that I think about it) are not college kids but actually older adults, typically over 40 for most of 'em. Weird.

Bull****.. so you guys rather see them leaching of the goverment.....lol.. what a joke.

Or did you guys ever think that lady delievering pizza is/might already a millionaire? Or just a few more dollars into her 401k and once she hits that mark, she will be a millionaire?

Some of you need to wake up... I have a 67 year old guy working for me right now, already retired... driving a Benz, lexus and Yukon... I asked him how can He afford all that? He said he already retired, he gets a nice draw of his 401k and we all know SS sucks...
He said, he is working there to kill time, cause he gets bored at home. Is this true? I dont know... But he works like a horse @ 67.

I feel bad for people who want to work but cant due to illness or something.......

I can see both points... me and Julio went at it about this before (debate, not fight) -- and people are often where they are as a result of their own choices. Hell, I didn't wanna be sitting out in Iraq (don't make me count how many BDAYS and holidays I've spent in somebodies f*cked up country) getting shot at - but now I have a pretty good d*mn life. It's not where I can sit at home everyday and the money wouldn't run out - but my pockets aren't exactly nervous. Not to mention. I work 6a - 2p and still am considering doing "something" after 2 in the way of work just b/c I am healthy and I see the big picture. And let's say that I work at Pep Boy's -- no1 that came in the store would ever know what I do from 6a - 2p at AT&T and what I make.

More likely than anything, that woman dedicated her life to her husband, who is now dead or can't work - and found out why 50 years of being a SAHM is just NOT smart. She has no safety net to fall back on in the event that he wakes up one day w/ his d*ck in some1 else's mouth. I'd never tell my wife (if i had one) that she has to work - I do alright --- but I WILL tell her that nothing in life is guaranteed, to include our marriage --- and make her decide for herself how to shape her life - be that school or work.

    * discuss *

just remember, people get themselves in this position. You shouldn't feel remorse for anyone who's 70 and still had to work. it's their own fault. However, having a big heart is good.. so i can see where you're coming from.. but in the same token.. she ****ed her life up, thats why she's delivering pizza's at 70.

On the other hand.. she could just be 70 and working because she gets bored at home.. i know alot of older people 60+ with tons of money and they work to pass the time.. they've nothing better to do. at least they're contributing tot he contry instead of living off my tax dollars.

I don't think its always there fault sometime it is but, life happens and you can prepare all you want but situations still can have you flat on your back.

Ex. Mother and daughter die in car accident. A seatbelt is worn but they still don't make it they prepared themselves but it still didn't work out. Not tryin to preach cuz you seem to be coo. I just don't think its a persons fault all time or like you said she could be bored.

How are they leaching of our government when they collect SS? Explain this idea to me that you have, because you see, THEY paid into Social Security thier whole life kinda like... Uhh.. WE DO so how are they leaching for getting money they paid thier due for?

But you others could be right to, maybe she is just doing it because she is bored, or enjoys it. I hope thats what it is, because still at 70+ if they have to work just to get by, thats sad because they gave thier life to working, having the final years to relax is well deserved.

ya never know. She might do this for fun. Some people work in their old age b/c they are not used to just sitting around doing nothing. Dont always feel bad. Be happy for those that can still manage their own self at that age.

Let's be realistic - she can work at Kroger and not be out and about in traffic and snow and cold --> walking up to strange people's houses all hours of the night. Barnes and Nobles - Waldenbook's, The Pink Pony --> THOSE are places that you just work at for fun.

maybe she just woke up one Monday morning and remember that 50 years ago she always wanted to deliver pizza because she couldn't back then, because she was fealty rich and she always had everything, and she just don't want to miss that opportunity..

But you others could be right to, maybe she is just doing it because she is bored, or enjoys it. I hope thats what it is, because still at 70+ if they have to work just to get by, thats sad because they gave thier life to working, having the final years to relax is well deserved.

    You answer your own question.....

    SS doesnt pay ****........ lol..

If you do not want to work, I suggest, SS+401K1+ A little investing on the side.. if you do not plan to own your own business..

But if you are depending on your SS to live confortably after you retire...

Check y0 self! Or, I will see you greeting doors at walmart.

I didnt say SS is enough, But your saying WE pay for her SS, But you need to realize she or anyone who pays thier taxes pays into this fund thier whole life, so really she is just getting the money she has paid in.

I never said SS alone is enough to get by, anyone with a basic idea of how the economy/system works knows you dont get hardly **** a month off that.

Brett, you just like everyone else has feelings. Some are more sensitive than others. You may think this old lady didn't deserve this, others may find it funny. I personally find it somewhat sad, because yes. They are old and would look better in a living room watching the news or whatever it is they watch than to be out in the cold delivering pizza's.

But if you really cared, you would have given her a $10.00 tip, but you didn't. And for that you should feel bad. Lolol. j/p

    brett:"nah, it can't be..."
~looks out the window, sees flowing blue hair, hobbling up the 275 steps from the driveway to his door, pizza, drinks two 2-liters, wings and breadsticks weighing her down, gasping for breath she finally reaches the final step, sweat frozen to her face and arthritis screaming to her nerves....a shaking finger presses his doorbell....

"well i'll be..." exclaims brett as he grabs the TP, hides his 'hardcore grannies' mag, back to the bottom of the towel closet and finishes a viagra spurned knuckle sliding....unbeknownst to leisa, who's snoring 2 seconds after turning on the TV...

brett opens the front door, then rolls up the titanium blast shield, pushes aside the half inch steel barrier, the pushes aside his beads from the '60's(when he was 80) finally opening his screen door, after unlocking the 15 locks, 1 retina scanner and the thumbprint reader.

"hey! thanks for coming..is that everything?" brett says, but hearing no response continues on: "thanks sweetness! this should cover a half a pill" with a wink and a smile he slides 3 wrinkled dollar bills into her raisin-esque, frost covered cleavage, exposed by the flimsy PAPA JOHNS windbreaker and polo and turns his back on her, closing himself back in to the home.

what he didnt realize is that she died waiting on him to open all that shyt, so she didnt see the tip anyway
