I have Kaiser also...Wish my employer would go with another HMO/PPO provider. I miss Blue Cross/Blue Shield....
I've hated Kaiser from the start. My son had chronic ear infections last year and they didn't refer us to the Ear/nose/throat specialist until after the fourth/fifth visit. I should also mention that a majority of their staff are not fully licensed Doctors and it iggs the hell out of me that when you're in for a visit they're on the computer longer than they are checking up on you. Hell, I always conduct my research online prior to me arriving, I expect them to know. For a month straight my son cycled on and off of fevers and was unable to go to childcare, and his mother and I took turns staying home from work. When he was finally referred, his hearing was well below the norm and talk about pissed & terrified. We were gracious that his hearing returned to normal after the myringotomy.
Not to mention the countless times both my boys have had various viral infections caught from school or daycare... The Kaiser peeps do there thing on the computer for 10 - 15 minutes. Then they turn and say, "It's just a virus going around." Duh, no shiat.... Then send them home and say bring them back if the symptoms continue after 2 days. Bastards could of told me that over the phone and saved me from making numerous copayments.
The only thing I praise them for is whatever medicine they have that stops my youngest from puking. He's had some virus twice in which he continuously upchucks like a scene from 'The Exorcist'.
I could go on and on about them and I've only been with them for 18 months now. However, with kids - self funded health care is not an option. So I'll continue to put up with it and pray.
