^^^ And to top it off, the Corps. of Eng. let out more water last week (11.5 BILLION gallons), then any other week this year up to back in March..... Meaning as the lake gets lower, they're letting more water out then normal.

In reference to Fontana lake, its more then 70ft below summer pool. If Lanier were to get that bad... well, its practically be dry see as the lake is only 160feet deep at the deepest point (the dam).

Do any of the water companies in the area have publicly traded stocks? Might be a good buy in a couple of months.

It's not possible for a toilet to get "full" and over flowing with piss, unless it is clogged. A toiled has an internal P-trap and whatever piss you stick in there just over flows into the drain pipe.

so when you say monitor, do you mean there were toilet police standing behind you making sure you didn't flush? lol

hm.. you look small, are you a "little person" LOL

yea, if Lanier falls any more than 2 more ft, its the lowest it has been since it was filling up!

i went down to the ramp where i put my boat in yesterday, adn there were all KINDS of things on the dround where the lake USED to be.. lol
cement blocks being used as ankors(sp) were everywhere!

    Water is down: 17.29 ft
    Water temperature: 68°

    1053.71

The water level is 17.29 feet
    below full pool of 1071
    feet above sea level

from yesterday to today it has gone down .26 feet, it dropped about 3-4 inches in 24hrs!!!

ok, what i dont get is why all of you people still think our government can actually do something right! every time they get involved it ends up worse than the way it was to begin with.

Our drought is not Bush's goddamn problem, our drought was not caused by the government.

I mean i can understand that those ****ing clams or mussels may be a bit stupid and we should cut back on the water being given to them.... but Florida gets their water from lake lanier, hence why we are still letting millions of gallons flow downstream to them.

Believe it or not this drought does NOT only affect people in georgia.

    a side note:

It wouldnt hurt you people to start stashing water away, at least 100 gallons or so, you never know when/if you may need it.

You buy 2 liter coke bottles??? Gallon jugs of milk??? instead of throwing them away or recycling them why not fill them up with our beloved water and stash them in a closet somewhere

Lake Lanier still has plenty of water. The area in front of the dam is not the deepest part and will actually go dry long before the rest of the lake would because of a ridge a few hundred yards away. That is why they are so worried about the level. If it gets to somewhere over 30 ft. down then the ridge will be above water, the area in front of the dam will go dry, and Atlanta, FL, and AL will no longer have Lanier for a water supply. The other problem for Lanier at this point is that almost all the ramps are out of the water so unless the level comes back up a decent amount Gainesville economy is gonna take one helluva major hit. Already lost a huge fishing tournament, few sailing races, and probably going to lose the poker run.

    A few points....

I don't think this had affected many property owners on this particular lake. It's surrounded by mountains and very sparsely populated. If it has bothered anyone, they will be fine in time. This is not a water source for cities, it's in the middle of nowhere so this shortage is all because of nature.

This goes to show that the low lake levels are not only because of overuse... the drought is real and we are seriously lacking rain. Still, people need to conserve and make efforts so it doesn't get worse. We need to conserve, people in AL and FL need to do their share as well. Everyone who relies on Lanier for water has to do their part and compromise or no one will have water.

We stopped by Lake Lanier on the way back from the mountains that day and it looked full compared to Fontana Lake. Yeah, it's pretty low but it's not like this. But, it's all a cycle. The Dust Bowl era came and went and this will as well. I just hope that people will learn to use water more wisely... though I seriously doubt anyone will make long term changes. It takes pretty dire situations for people to change habits.

We have pics at home of this lake when it's full, we go there every time we go to the Dragon. It was pretty shocking to see it this time. Over 30ft lower than this time last year.

I know. It's part of the TVA. One of Roosevelt's New Deal initiatives to create jobs alongside while existing problems and boosting the economy.

Other TVA lakes are really low as well. Lake Nottelly looked pretty sad. It's about 15 feet low right now.

I didn't see that one. The urinals are big troughs that have a little bit of water running and the stalls didn't have any attendants as far as I knew.

LOL Fl gets little water from Lanier and AL can just **** off.

What i dont get is that FL and AL ***** like spoiled ****s about the water yet, NO ONE seems to have said "We are not turning off the water, just cutting back. If we do not, then when we run out, we are all ****ed".

I swear no one gets that concept....
