I actually think this is a pretty good idea in moderation. However, censoring every word that could possibly be perceived as a cuss, I think that's a touch excessive. I know that in reality no cuss word is worse than another, but there's a stigma attached to some of the words that makes people seem to think that they're worse than other. I say, if they wouldn't have played it on the radio 5 years ago [sorry, but radio edits these days are ridiculous] then it shouldn't be visible here. Also, in response to shagwagen's post about enacting punishments against 'bypassing' the censor by using fvck instead of fuck, I personally find that a touch excessive. If you want to censor the actual word, then fine, but fvck, no matter what it LOOKS like, is simply not a word.

Cliffs: the 'baddest of the bad', i.e. shit, fuck, cunt, etc. I think it would be a great benefit to the reputation of the forum to block, however, there's an extremely fine line between cleaning up your image and stifling your members.

This is an adult site and people should expect to see adult content. As long as new members join at the same rate and previous members stay on here, each site sponsor will have the same attn regardless of censorship. If anything the site sponsors should find the RLD more offensive than profanity. I just like the idea of being able to say ANYTHING, unlike in most other forums. If it comes down to loosing a sponsor then it's best to censor profanity, otherwise I vote no.

Yeah, the under 18 = ban rule is in effect, but the problem is, how hard is it to hit the back button and change your birth date from 91 to 81? Answer it's not, and what Julio is talking about is bigger, better sponsors not wanting to do business with IA because of this. Like I said, teetotalling is NOT the way to go, but I do think the place could generally benefit from a little cleanup.

Don't get me wrong, I don't necessarily like the idea, but you have to weigh the benefits and detractors of the situation. That being said, if bigger, better sponsors doesn't equate to bigger, better things for us [the members] then by all means no, it's ridiculous.

i think its a great idea to appease your sponsors but if the website gets lame or boring whats the point of keeping you sponsors happy if you have no members...ie importsouth and importnorthcarolina..without members you have no sponsors

I'd have to agree with the J/O above me...

As a previous sponsor, the language and boards like "red light" are a bit scary..but that's what the "scene" is about. I made the decision that if we were going to sponsor the site, we would support the scene.

It comes down to the people. If you are sponsoring a site it's because you want your name or company associated with the target audience. As a sponsor it isn't smart to say "their good enough to buy my product" on one hand and on the other say "that's not the type of people we want our name associated with."

In reality, this site has a great target audience for products and vendors truly associated with the "scene"...

In my mind, your either in or out. You choose. The fact of the matter is, everyone knows that this site wasn't designed to make money, it wasn't the original thought. Chances are, that's what made it so popular. If people (members) begin to feel that they are just another group involved in a marketing study they will probably go elsewhere and without them, the members, what does sponsorship really matter?

my take on this: First amendment but it is your site so im a lil torn. If its 18 and up i dont think a cleanup is necessary cuz its the nature of the beast we're gonna cuss period. Blanking it out may help but the point is would it be worth it to give up being to say what we want/sigs and such for money and eventually we'll be branding barcode on our heads..

I've said it before on here. Implement some sort of "Supporting Member" status where you pay a minimal monthly fee for added privileges such as larger sig, more PM space, hell even make reps count for more. Try that and see how much money you make from members willing to pay $1.50 a month to keep IA how they want it compared to selling out for some sponsor.

We did the same system on WRXatlanta and it works very well. We only have a handful of sponsors so it made a very large difference, on here maybe not so much but any money is still money in your pocket.
