just tell them you were leaving a neutral point (thats 20 minutes away) at 11:30. Tell them you planned on being home in good time, but right before you left, your drunk friend didnt have a ride, and rather than her drive, you took her. She lives 20 minutes away from the neutral point too, so basically, tell them your 20 minutes behind schedule because you attempted to keep your friend safe and off the road.
