Default An Amazing Moment at the Airport today

I had to take my Mother-in-law to the airport this afternoon. While we said our goodbyes, there was an eruption of applause that went on for minutes in the atrium. As we went through the atrium to leave there was still applause (it was almost deafening), I looked around to see what the fuss was about and on the second floor of the atrium was a group of soldiers coming home, and another group heading for thier flights. It was a very surreal moment(very emotional). My wife said had she not been crying from telling her mother goodbye that it would have made her cry.

I notice you are in the air force... but I guess you are doing it just cause it's a job... but alot of military men and woman take lil more pride in there "work" for there country. And thats why people applaud them for it.

no ones saying you dont know anything. theres a lot of people on here though that have either lost someone or have family over there and to here someone in the military say soemthing like that hurts. for you it is a job. it's something you deal with everyday but not everyone feels the same way.

all im saying is people need to realize. We do it becuase we want to. I dont know about everyone else, but when people say thank you, i ask them for what. I wanted to do somethign for my country, this is what i did. I work with a rescue unit that refuels helicopters in flight when they go in for downed pilots. It is a job, we know the risks going into the entire ordeal. We are no more of a hero, special, or anythign than the guy down the road directing traffic for little children.

Well it was still a dumbass remark. Just because you don't like to be thanked and to be made to feel welcomed home, doesn't mean no one else does. Later, QD.

dude its cool it hits home for me b/c it would kill me if anything happened to any of my family over in Iraq or Korea. It is a job to a certain extent but if it werent for people like you people's family members would still be there waiting and or dieing. The thank yous are more or less an easy way of saying that we are proud of you and all of the other military personel that are busting their butts for us.

The ones going over there may not be HERO's per say, But they are dying for our country and fighting for it, and that deserves the applause anytime from me.

I understand that it is your job and all. I don't understand why you don't like to feel like you have people appreciate what you're doing. But that's amazing!! I would have cried and just grin ear to ear. I mean these soldiers have been gone for a while and to come home to their families is priceless. I can't imagine them comming off the plane and their kids and families waiting anxiously for their arrival!! I'm tearing just thinking of it. My friend has been over (for his 2nd time as a marine) since January. And will hopefully return September. And has a 3yr. old son. And the last time he talkd to his dad he was saying "when are you coming home daddy?" and "I miss you daddy. and "I love you daddy" Thought was soo sweet. Sorry for blabbering, thought I would tell you of another experience. ~God bless our brave soldiers~
