My son looks up to me but I've had to woop him a couple of times and he probably has another one coming since he's decided to start talking back under his voice.

Mine is 8 and he did that for the first time the other day. As long as he has a memory, I don't think it'll happen AGAIN......

6 and he's gotten REAL sly with it lately, like the minute I turn my back he'll start but he's a bit more blatant with his mom.

To the one not wooping a 13 month old... you shouldn't have to but then again they shouldn't think they can hit at you either. I only went by your story as it was told and you said you

a. ignored him when he cried and scream (cannot stand parents who do that in a store or restaurant)
b. gave in to him after he whined for something in the store

That is how it starts, and that is how you end up with parents like the person ranted about in the original post. Nobody is perfect, I surely am not when it comes to parenting but people have to take ownership of their actions and their childrens actions as well.
