Federal prosecutors have offered a plea deal recommending an 18- to 36-month prison sentence for suspended NFL quarterback Michael Vick for his alleged role in a dogfighting operation, but Vick's attorneys are trying to reduce that to less than a year, two sources told CNN on Monday.

Vick's attorneys hope to hear back from National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell's office sometime Monday about Vick's career options before entering into any deal with federal prosecutors, the sources said.

Vick's three codefendants in the dogfighting case have accepted agreements to plead guilty in exchange for reduced sentences.

Vick Attorney Says Star Quarterback Will Plead Guilty in Dogfighting Case

The lead attorney for pro football star Michael Vick said Monday that the Atlanta Falcons quarterback will plead guilty to dogfighting and related charges and will "accept full responsibility for his actions and the mistakes he has made."

Billy Martin, heading up Vick's legal team, issued the following statement:

"After consulting with his family over the weekend. Michael Vick ask that I announce today that he has reached an agreement with Federal prosecutors regarding the charges pending against him. Mr. Vick has agreed to enter a plea of Guilty to those charges and to accept full responsibility for his actions and the mistakes he has made. Michael wishes to apologizes again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter. The legal team and Mr. Vick will appear in court in Richmond on August 27th."

Mike I will bet you it will take at least 5 years if not more for the Falcons to recover from this, Vick might not have taken the Falcons to the superbowl but he brought an energy to the Dome that we have not seen in a VERY long time.. no good will come of this situation especially for the Falcons.

Yeah he is what sold the dome out, BUT I will say this, I was pretty suprised how good Harrington has done the past 2 weeks, What really sucks is we lost Shockley for the season, he would have been a GREAt back up and had alot of Vicks style to his play.

But count on Vick not coming back ATLEAST till 2009 if he serves only a year. But The feds say 18-36 months so we will see. I do think the NFL should start his suspension when he gets out, not while he serves his time in jail
