I deal with this on a daily basis, and to be 100% honest with you, this is why you have so many awol's and deserters...because they join the service for all the wrong reasons.
So before you sign in at meps....and meps sucks so much balls by the way...it's all a hurry up and wait game....sit down and really think about it...you are about to sign up for a commitment, this is a voluntary army....so if you sign and later run, you will be prosecuted.
Something I tell alot of future soldiers is, nothing in the Army or any branch of service is written in stone...things can change all the time with or without warning, because you are a worker bee, and you do as told.
if you have any doubts, don't sign. If you think you are a hardass and have somekind of attitude going in....you will be in for a rude awakening because your life will be miserable in the military.
if you said you scored a 90+ on your first asvab, and you want to do intel, because from the sounds of it...don't seem like you want to be the fighting type....talk to the Air Force and Navy recruiters when you are at Meps, look at all your options....I will tell you this now though, basic training for both AF and Navy are considerably easier and shorter than Army and Marine basic training....enlisted life for AF and Navy is also better than Army and Marines....I'm not saying you sit around and eat coffee and donuts all day, but your overall living conditions will be much nicer than Army/Marines.
Goto meps, take your asvab, do your physical, and talk to the army, navy, and air force recruiters, you do not have to sign anything unless you want too. It's perfectly normal to go there and leave and come back some other time to swear in, Don't be enticed by bonuses....you are taxed 28% on them, and that should not be a weighing factor of joining any branch...
there are a few other guys on this site that are in the military or are prior service, I'd listen to them, but everyone else who says that their dad or brother or cousin is all hersay...they haven't been there or done it...and you will also learn that "military brats" act like they know it all, but actually know nothing at all
