i know parents who buy their kids a second more efficient car to somehow "save" money by them not driving their gas guzzling truck as much. I fail to see the logic in paying 15-20k on a new car to save 10 or so miles per gallon lol

and yea its not gonna PEAK tomorrow... gas has gone up every thursday or friday the past month. its only going to get worse this summer mid july or so

I filled up my Civic last night and it took exactly $30.75. I remember it taking $13 at one time :cry: Either way... My car will go almost 400 miles on a full tank (if I don't use the ac)

too bad every damn hybrid out is ugly as shit and I'd rather shell out a couple extra bucks on gas then a couple extra thousand on an ugly car.

Blame our president for these damn prices and blame the suv craze that went on in the 90's

when they make a fixed rate of ~10 cents per gallon of profit (oil companies) and how there is 60 to 80 cents in taxes and fees per gallon?

"From 1932, when Congress first enacted an excise tax on gasoline, until 1956, the proceeds of the gas tax went into general revenues, although the amount raised each year was used as an informal benchmark for Federal highway spending. The Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 established the Highway Trust Fund and stipulated that 100% of the gas tax be deposited into the fund. From 1956 to 1982, the Highway Trust Fund was used solely to finance expenditures from the federal highway program.

Highway Trust Fund revenues were first allocated to mass transit in the Surface Transportation Act of 1982, when Congress raised the gas tax from four cents per gallon to nine cents per gallon and dedicated one cent, or 20 percent, of the increase to the newly-established Mass Transit Account. Each time there has been an increase in the amount of gas tax going into the Highway Trust Fund—1990, 1993 and 1997—20 percent of the increase has been allocated to the Transit Account and 80 percent to the Highway Account. Of the current gasoline tax of 18.3 cents per gallon, 2.86 cents per gallon is allocated to the Mass Transit Account. "

If it was, we'd all be running on hydrogen powered cars right now, cause money would/should have been efficiently poured into R&D of new alternative fuels, but alas it wasn't :(.

Hydrogen cars are closer than you think. Honda has one coming out next year and chevrolet is expecting to have theirs out by 2012.

The cars are close, but the infrastructure to support them is far from being readily available.

The biggest problem with hybrids is the cost. Right now cost of a hybrid will run you more than the gas you save, even in the long run. Especially when you factor the extra maintenance they require. America hasn't built a new refinery in 30 years thanks to our politicians. So the price of a barrel of oil isn't nearly as big of a factor as the refineries output. It's been said already, supply and demand. Couple that with Americans unwilling to give up the ugly, gas guzzling SUV and you have higher prices. But honestly, how many of you have changed your driving habits because of prices? Consolidating trips and such? Few I'm guessing. We just sit around and bitch. Change shit, either with your vote or with your wallet.

A concern that I have that I don't know enough about is the disposal and potential coming ecological disaster from all the batteries in the hybrids. Does anyone have any good information on potential environmental damage in that avenue?

I haven't changed my driving habits a bit, however I dont complain about gas prices either.

its so hard to switch fuel sources,because when all the new cars come out using hydrogen,what bout all the cars we love that run on gas...will people start putting the hydrogen Rotary in all the old RX-7s?

I doubt the people behind getting hydrogen as an alternative fuel source care about what some random tuners would do to their rx-7s.

I heard the president is going to address that very issue..LOL. Gas will still be around for a long time, unless we find some Dialithum crystals. IMO diesel will become the fuel that powers us for the future. Yes, diesel.

You're missing the overall point. They won't care about the tuner market, even though many consider it big, in the overall picture it represents a miniscule fraction of car related sales.
