Default For those of you throwing HID kits into your halogen setups v. you can't be serious

Okay, let me explain (and educate) something to you people who are doing the HID upgrade in your stock, halogen setups as I have seen a few posts about this:

The halogen reflectors in your cars (or any car with halogen headlights) aren't designed to work with the light source arc produced by HID bulbs. The position of the HID bulb in the reflector assembly may not line up the arc of the HID bulb where the filament was in the original bulb. Plus, some halogens have filaments that are axial or transverse whereas all HID bulbs are the same. The characteristics of the arc light source in an HID bulb are different than a filament, including details like different amounts of light coming from the ends of the filament vs. the middle, and halogen reflectors take advantage of this. Installing an HID bulb negates the original design of the halogen reflector and causes grief for other drivers (and you).

Since HID bulbs don't have light shields on them like most low beam lamps, you end up blinding other drivers even with careful alignment of the headlamp.

HID conversions (and even HID in general) end up throwing a lot of light right near the front of your car rather than up the road where you need it. This extra light up close makes your pupils narrow, which doesn't allow you to see dark things as well up the road. This is especially bad in bad weather situations.

If you are going to throw in an HID kit, make sure to replace the entire reflector setup as well. Don't just do it cheap, do it right.

Which is why I'm glad I bought a car with OEM projector headlights.

Aye. It just kills me how people are throwing HIDs into halogen/reflector casings.

Yeah, I helped blank cd put his in his Accord. It's bright, the color looks good, but to me it's too blinding when you're facing the car.

Exactly! Plus, he still isn't getting the focused-beam output like he could with a real setup.

It's not about the look. Sure, anything beyond halogen looks a LOT better. We're talking about BLINDING people on the road.

JM put an HID kit he got from Nitro in his 200SX. I drove in front of him and I've faced the car to see how it looked. Wasn't blinding or anything, it just looked good. Could some proper headlight re-adjustment keep you from blinding other drivers?

The headlights on my Yaris sit high enough as it is, but my bulbs suck. I plan on just doing some hyperwhite bulbs and calling it a day.

They look good, but even if you aren't blinding other drivers, you aren't using the HIDs to their full effect. It's sorta pointless.

Depends on what you're trying to accomplish I guess. I, personally, just hate the yellowish color that my factory headlights have. I figured a good hyperwhite bulb would fix that without spending an stupid amount of money for an HID kit.

Which is perfectly fine. I am probably going to pick up some Osram or Sylvania SilverStars to eliminate the yellowish tint, but I wouldn't put HIDs into my car unless I paid for the entire HID casing that is sold in Europe.

Also sometime it could cause serious damage. Alot of cars with projectors have ballast which as you know control the power outage of the HID. Well the manufactures seal these ballast with sillicon or plastic shells. Well car's who dont have HID and just stick these in there usually forget one thing. Is to seal the freaking ballast up or something....because low and behold water gets into them they start to fry and maybe catch your engine on fire before. Someone on Preludeonline forgot to seal his ballast up and water proof it and while he was driving it started to rain bad and water seeped into his hood....and short circuted his headlamps and BAM it was gone and smoke started to arise.
