Default Question about buying a car.............

Ok so my friend recently purchased a guys car on here. He was asking $1000. He contacts the seller, goes to meet him at his house, check the car out, it looks like a winner so he decides to buy it. Now the car had to be picked up with a truck and trailor LATER ON since it wasnt movable.

He says to the seller "HOWS $800 CASH SOUND TODAY".

He says "$800 is fine, i can give you the title on THursday. Let me know when your coming back to pick the car up."

He hands me the keys, i leave. Thursday he calls me an asks if i had gotten the car yet, i tell him no that i had been busy. I would get it soon. He comes by saturday an gives me the title and says "you have the rest of my money?". i was like WTF?

he thinks i should give him $200 more since he was ASKING $1000. i say no because i negotiated a $800 price. The fact that he gave me the keys an title proves he accepted my offer.

well i went an got the car an hes wigging out that i "owe" him more money.

Now $200 is not a bad deal and its still worth it, but its the principle.

    THOUGHTS?

    pay up or no?

Unless you think he's capable of layin down some pain, don't pay his ass. He made an offer and you accepted the offer. Not that it ould hold up in court, but that's a verbal contract right there.

maybe the guy was trusting him to pay up... that's why he gave the keys then.. and then later brought the title and asking for money at the same time. right?

I think he misunderstood. He probably though that $800 takes it home today but the total price is still $1000. Should have written up a bill of sale though.

    or
2)did he say $800 now then $200 later

if he said #1 it a done deal
if he said #2 then give him the $200 and call it a day

If it is still a good deal at $1,000 then do it that way. Then both parties are satisfied with the transaction. ALWAYS write up and sign a bill of sale to avoid confusion. I may have interpreted that "$800 cash today" meant just that, 800 now 200 later. Another idea would be to split it and give him $100 and tell him that since it was a misunderstanding that you would be generous and go half of the difference. You were just as surprised that he wanted another $200 as he was that you weren't giving him another $200. Compromise is where it's at.

If it was because of miscommunication then pay the $200 (that what it sounds like), but your already getting a good deal anyways.

losing someone to death is nowhere near losing someone's friendship over $200. Besides, I don't think the guy asking for the money is Mike's friend.

as long as it was well understood that the price you offered was $800 and he agreed, then i say no, the deal was done. He's just trying to guilt you into giving him an extra $200.

if he genuinely seems confused about this then i would give him the 200$ presuming he is a good friend of yours.

i've had friends including myself get in fights over confusion over possesion of items all of the time.

me and my friend got into a dispute over a ps3 we got the day they came out when they were selling for thousands profit, i was right but i let it go because i would rather have him as a friend anyways.

turns out he LOST the PS3 in his house and i sold the one i got for profit, so karma was a bitch to him haha

there was def a misunderstanding. weather or not you decide to give him the extra 200 is based on if your conscience is feeling guilty. but to me you said 800 cash now he said ok, so i would be fine with everything. he's the one with the misunderstanding.

There was probably a misunderstanding, like others have been saying. A bill of sale should have been drafted. Pay him 100$ and call it even just to be a good guy.

Sounds like he thought you only had $800, and might be waiting to get the rest. Without a bill of sale saying I (so & so) bought (desc of car/vin#), from (so & so) on (date) for (X amount of $) *Signed by both parties* It's still legally his car.

the answer to this thread boils down to the race of the car seller

affirmative actionely speaking, if he was black, mexican, or chinese (that covers all minorities) then you must give his money... if not then you're straight.
