You don't need a Class III to own. You just pay the $200 stamp and fill out the correct forms. Why do you ask?

Your GFL comes from the probate court. You can fill out the forms at an authorized FFL dealer. For example, go visit Chris at the Gun Room on Buford Highway right at Shallowford. He sells fully automatic weapons, legally. Granted, it WILL cost you up the ass for them.Originally Posted by 2.3 Evo 8
Maybe $10-14k for a fully auto M16, $15-20k for a fully auto MP5, etc. You get the idea. Fully auto is $$$ as you can only buy pre 1986 auto sears/weapons if you are not a dealer.

What license? You don't need a Class III license to own. However, this might help you understand some more...Originally Posted by sirkus34
All NFA weapons are subject to a $200 tax every time their ownership changes from one federally registered owner to another, and each new NFA weapon is subject to a manufacturing tax when it is made, and it must be registered with the BATF in its National Firearms Registry. To become a registered owner of NFA weapons, a complete FBI background investigation is done, checking for any criminal history or tendencies toward violence, and an application must be submitted to the BATF including two sets of fingerprints, a recent photo, and sworn affidavit that transfer of the NFA firearm is of "reasonable necessity" and that sale to and possession of the weapon by the applicant "would be consistent with public safety." Because the transfer tax for one NFA weapon is just as high as the cost of a Class III dealer's license, most machinegun enthusiasts opt for the dealer's license also, if they want to buy more than one NFA weapon. The Class III FFL (Federal Firearms License) is good for three years, and a renewal fee of $90 must continue to be paid in order to maintain the license, every three years. The license fee to be a dealer in "destructive devices" (tanks, artillery, and bombs, for example) is considerably steeper, at $1,000 a year. Since 1986, no new machineguns have been available to Class III licensed civilians, despite an unblemished record of lawful civilian ownership of these guns. Even with a dealer's license, the transfer taxes must still be paid, but some of the paperwork involved in the transfer is reduced, such as for the background investigation.

Depends on firearm of choice as well. For the most part they are all $200, AOWs are much cheaper though I believe, like 5 bucks.Originally Posted by Ruiner
