Wow, but it doesn't seem to state anything about world-wide death or a second ice age, so I guess they should just calculate where its gonna hit and the effects, once they do that then they should make decisions on moving the asteroid or not. Just my thoughts.

As far as that goes, that might be something to precise to try and dick with. Rather than try and aim it somewhere just "safer" like the ocean (I presume you were talking about doing), just do as the article said, launch a mission early and aim it completely away from the Earth.

Well, yeah kinda. It would depend on the size of the asteroid and all of that because even if the asteroid did hit the ocean, it would probably cause a HUGE wave that would wipe out the coasts of most continents and its another tsunami all over again. So yeah, lots of things to take into consideration, but the idea of taking care of it asap is the best one. Only problem would probably be how much it costs to do each mission, which is about $300 million, as the article states.

Yeah Its deffinetely an expensive move. It's hard to say what would happen and for the better or worse. They said it was 460 feet long...Thats big..but not big considering the size of the oceans. It could be, but then again couldn't be a safe thing to do. To me the best bet seems to launch the missin a.s.a.p. and have it avoid earth completley.

However They did say it was what? 1 in 45K chance of it hitting? I dont think that it would hit personally, but there's still that chance. Safe idea would be to launch, adn still give it more of a gap between it and us.

I agree, but then they also say there are more that they are trying to calculate the chances of them hitting and there tryna track them down and stuff...don't know how the hell they're gonna do that but if they can, power to them and use it. Lol.

They're planning on sending some sort of "craft" out there to pull this one aside of the earth. If they're spending the money for this, I don't see why they couldn't fit it with the tools needed to scan for these other's. They plan it taking around 12 days to move the current one. Thats a start. I don't see that happening though. I see them building 2 machines to send out one to move one, and the other scan.
