However as several others have stated, there are a number of factors that led to Detroit's current state, one of which was the decline of the auto industry. David mentioned that the bankruptcy filing didn't list it specifically but it seems pretty obvious that the decrease in population and increase in violence were at least partially outcomes of that industry's decline. You may think that the auto industry had no responsibility to Detroit and I won't argue against you, but that doesn't mean their actions didn't have a huge impact.
