Default Perfect example of what is wrong with our government.

This is Tom Brady's 20 million dollar, 22000 sqft home.

Obama to spend 376 million dollars on new oval office. Yes, three hundred seventy six million dollars.
Obama to Get Second Oval Office

Everyone take comfort in knowing where your "fair share" goes. I myself had to pay in $570 this year. That money, which is fairly significant to me, will probably go towards a decorative pen set for someone's office.

Do you think all of that is going to that project - and none of it is going to help fund our next generation of defensive weapons?

376M to cover a complete renovation of the west wing AND the new oval office that will act like a private study.

Not too bad of a price tag considering what all goes into it. You have all of the physical security layers built into actual structure such as kevlar lined walls. You have bullet proof glass that can supposedly stop an RPG round. You have the HVAC system that is good enough to protect the oval office against an NBC attack on the whore house.

On top of that you have the technology that makes directional mics and lasers unable to listen to conversations taking place in the oval office.

Still more security features to make sure the electronic info passing through the oval office cannot be intercepted.

On top of that, it requires very expensive, very highly researched and background checked engineers, contractors, and workers to actually do the work.

At the end of the day, it is still a drop in the ocean. Not enough to get too worked up over.

I didnt think of that aspect of the cost when i initially looked at it, but i still cant fathom a 365m renovation. It's the total picture though...... why would this renovation need to happen during economic crisis? Also, seems like you read about something else like this daily. Last time i read about 40-50k paintings on the walls. We had previous presidents who drove their own personal cars or skipped vacations because they didnt want to offend the public in a time of crisis. Modern day government rubs your face in the excessive spending.

Kevlar enforced walls? i thought kevlar had an expiration date?

40 to 50k for 1 of a kind painting from modern and classical masters is nothing.

A President that drove his personal car? Not since Truman.

Presidential vacations are a waste because of all the people and equipment that have to be moved. I cant exactly fault the man in the most stressful job in the world for wanting to change surroundings though. Unlike our vacations though, his vacations are no different than a normal day at the office.

Renovations during an economic crisis, maybe. You have no clue when or how the money was budgeted though. This could have been in the works and budgeted by the Bush Admin.

What's the point of this thread? I'm sure you would have been equally as upset when the renovations occurred under a Romney presidency?

I lol when people try to fault the president for taking vacations when his office is with him all the time, and he has full presidential capacity 24/7. Then when people try and complain about how much taxpayer money the president spends going on vacation, forgetting the fact that they've gotta pay a staff and keep a 747 ready to take off at all times.

    next question.....

White house released a picture of Obama but they prohibited altering or distributing the picture in any way. Real question, can they do that? seems against the 1st amendment, not that they really care too much about the constitution.

All those links and no itemized charges, or anything I can't fault any other president before him for. Good job.

Considering what all is covered by that 1.4b I dont think it is overly excessive

The book claims that the 1.4b is excluding the cost of normal operation. I cant confirm or deny that....

But the links you posted claim the 1.4B WAS including normal operations. That 1.4B included the salary for all of the czars and their staff. It included the entire WH staff. It included everything.

That book is just more political drama that has little, if any, context to support its claims.
