Default secession petitions filed in 20 states

Secession petitions filed on White House Web site

From states across the country, Americans have filed petitions on the White House Web site seeking to secede from the union and form new state governments.
While most of the petitions come from states that supported Mitt Romney in last week’s election, a few swing states and even the deep blue Northeast are represented.

Petitions have been filed for Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

Those people who want to leave the US are already free to do so. Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

I feel the same way about it when people said they would leave the country if Bush was elected... it's really immature

Bush did a lot of good things, he just thought it was a good idea to start a couple wars, then drop taxes.

I personally did not vote for Obama. I don't agree with some of the things he stands for and acts on, but by no means do I think we should secede from this nation.

Whats really funny is the people that think the tax rates are a major driver of our debt.

But they are still a factor

You ever take a pay cut before then decide "hmm, I think I'll buy a Ferrari"?

I havent. I have also abstained from calling an 8 cent raise on a thousand dollar paycheck a windfall that will save me from financial ruin.

is this really happening? 25,000 signatures required officially for the president to have to address a secession petition. Texas is up to 81,000.

    can this really happen?

Yea it did.....i just shook my head when i read this the other day. I guess there are a few thing that concern my. A only 34000 signatures out of the whole state and now they want to get out. Sounds like those people should just leave.

Also i guess they do not realize how much the government impacts there lives....how many military bases are then in texas, not only that but how many civilian jobs are on these bases. If you leave the union you lose those jobs along with all funding for public university as well as federal funding for schools in your state.....And they said they could run it by themselves, what military would you have NONE!!! And losing all of those goverment aids such as farmer subsides, and then loosing jobs from the civilian work for on bases. You would have little to no state income from taxes and yet they say with lower taxes it would creat jobs and that the state could substain itself.........Even the state gov. Disapprove.

it would be a lot easier to just make 1 person leave.

The 25k signatures is for the WH to respond to the petition, not to actually secede. Basically the WH will respond to the petition and tell the signatories the legal process to secede. Since you need an overwhelming majority of the particular states residents and state government approval, it will NEVER happen.

...and just read that back in 1869, SCOTUS deemed that unilateral secession is unconstitutional. For more information, see Texas v. White.

Kinda goes to show just how much these people who are "unhappy" with the election results truly know about the government.

I just love how people claim they want DEMOCRACY , we have a democratic election that clearly decides a winner, and now they want to shit all over it and leave?

    how constitutional of them.

Its lame, they did this shit in 2008 too IIRC.

They don't want democracy. They want to have it their way and if they don't get it they get a bug in their ass about it. Ironically, It's the same right wing bible thumpers that love to say "if you don't like the way the USA is, I'll help you pack your bags"

They can fuck right off and I will charge each one of them $300 to pack just to give them the last taste of their "beloved" capitalist society, and not a single fuck will be given.

Ironically for those saying Texas would lose government funding...Texas actually has some of the lowest funding from the Government than any state. They actually almost support themselves. lol. Granted I have been to San Antonio and that place is a shit hole so....

    Let's see...

Texans signing petition to secede: 81,000
    Total Texans (2011 est): 25,674,681
    Percent of Texans signing: 0.32%

    Me thinks not likely

Most of the people signing the petition aren't even from Texas. I took a look at it. Even if you got 24,900,000 signatures exclusively from TX, the petition itself means absolutely nothing. Nothing has or will ever come from these petitions. They're just a Q&A's by votes.

i would love democracy....However now we have a communist minded president for 4 more years that is turning America into a socialist society.. Remember, America fights socialists, not embrace them.......

A couple questions for you (Dont say shit, Sinfix)....

What makes you think our president is "communist minded"? Or a socialist? Could you tell me what the definition of both communism and socialism is? Can you give me an example of socialism in America?

you can only learn if you want to learn though. Most people are too comfortable in their own opinions to do so.

I remember reading that texas wants to succed because they have the 10th biggest economy in the world and they have a balanced budget. Obama hasnt balanced the budget since he has been in office and is getting into more debt. If obama would focus on the economy and stop spending our money we wouldnt be having this conversation

The only people that want to secede are the people who don't really know much of anything.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Less people voted Dem this year than last year, and the same amount of people voted GOP. Obama still won by an EV landslide. Hypothesis busted.
