I agree with the ban. The problem with having an event like this so close to a residential area is that you get so many kids, and punk adults, who think they can do everything they saw the competent drivers do. The issues come in when they try doing it down side streets and through major intersections.

Really? What about just about any car movie ever, including the fast and furious saga?

You'd figure events like this keep them off the streets because they're almost monthly now at this point and stupidly cheap to partake in. Also, at a lot of these events, douchebaggery on the streets is looked down upon- probably a good thing to instill into the younger ones?

I come from the minitruck world. I have been to shows that set aside 2, 3, 4 hours after sundown for dragging in a controlled venue. It never took long after the show area died down before we headed for the interstates for some 70+ mph dragging. I understand that its part of the scene, but there is always that 1 guy or group that is going to make a splash in front of everyone and do something stupid.

Last time I went to Southeast Showdown there was a dragging area set up after dark. One guy had to get more speed and lay harder than the last guy. He almost slid into a $200k+ demo Hummer that was parked in a terrible spot but still should have been perfectly safe.
