By "most media outlets" you mean News Corp. aka Fox News, Fox Sports, and Fox Network. Home of Sean Hannity, Bill O Reilly, and Glenn Beck. News Corp also owns the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal. News Corp is publicly traded. Murdoch is its founder, major shareholder, and managing director.

NBC, MSNBC, and CNBC are 80% owned by General Electric, and the other 20% is a French company. GE is publicly traded. Jeff Jucker is the CEO :

CBS is its own company, its publicly traded, and its president is Leslie Moonves.

CNN is owned by Turner Broadcasting (Ted Turner doesn't have much stock in the company anymore), Turner Broadcasting is in turn owned by AOL-Time-Warner and the CEO of Turner is Phillip Kent. Time Warner is publicly traded

While you are on to something that there is a lot of conglomeration in the media, each of the major networks above has different ownership. So its not to the point that all media is owned by one person. Of course if you only watch Fox News its easy to get that impression.

most networks are all owned by the same folks, MTV, nickelodeon, comedy central, etc and i'm sure murdoch has a share in most of the companies. there was a big deal a few years ago about that issue and it being a "monopoly" of sorts.l i thought Ted was booted out of some of his networks at some point for some reason. Btw i do not watch fox news it is a joke.

Viacom is what you are thinking of when you say MTV/nickelodeon/Comedy Central/VH1. They were merged with CBS until a couple years ago. Murdoch is not involved with anything in the media other than News Corp that I am aware.

Most of the monopoly issues involve terrestrial radio and Clear Channel Communications (the radio home of Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck) in specific.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clear_C...s#Market_share

Clear Channel is most notable for its censoring its stations to play such offensive songs as the Beatles' "Ticket to Ride" and The Bangles' "Walk like an Egyptian" after 9/11. And also for censoring programming content critical about the Bush administration and the war in Iraq.
