Yeah, I agree with D.O and Sammich, this guys a racist. He didn't seem to have any other cookies that were caricatures of people. The way he tries to backpedal and avoid directly answering the questions the reporter's questions is just condescending.

I agree with you here... my family are hillbillies, and even though I see a lot of people ripping on hillbillies, the stereotypes don't bother me that bad. Nor do the stereotypes about the Irish, the Germans, American Indians, etc (and for all I know I probably also have some African blood somewhere in my ancestory) But at the same time I could see how some people do get bothered by them. Especially when you have a painful heritage like slavery.

The stereotypes about hillbillies, Irish, Germans, Jews, Asians, and other "White" groups are for the most part not that negative. The stereotypes for Hispanics and Blacks, on the other hand are more negative than positive. When you add in a heritage that includes injustices such as slavery, Jim Crow, and apartheid, things get really loaded. There are times when one can portray black stereotypes in humor and not come off as racist, but theres a very thin line.

It is the guy's 1st ammendment right to make the cookies any way he wants, he could make some far more offensive cookies than those if he really wanted to push the envelope. But what gets me is that he's all condescending and says the cookies aren't racist. If you're going to be a racist at least have the balls to be a racist openly.

I am guessing he will be on the unemployment line pretty soon when his business fails though. He might get over running a business that pulls that kind of stuff in GA (like Wildman Myers in Kennesaw) but I doubt people will take to it in NYC

Um, no......the owner was, if I recall correctly, caucasian. Secondly, if he made a McCain cookie and called it "McCain Macadamia" there would be no issue. If he called this cookie "Obama Chocolate de Presidento" there would be no problem. He called it a fucking NEGRO cookie. If a black restaurant made a McCain Cracker, he would catch hell from everyone. His store would be burned down or spray painted with racial slurs.

You fail at history son. Slavery was only ended on paper with the emancipation proclamation. African Americans (and poor whites for that matter) were free in theory, but once many began to work as farm laborers for their former masters they were forced into predatory leasing agreements designed to keep them bound to the land. Sharecropping lasted into the 1950's/'60's. And many state and local governments enacted Jim Crow laws and restricted Blacks from accessing education, voting, etc. Segregation lasted untill the mid '60's. The Civil Rights act wasn't passed untill 1968.

So when you say "slavery ended 145 years ago" you're just showing your ignorance. The events that took place to bring us as close to equality as we are today are a lot more recent than you might think.

As for people making fun of Bush... I've heard 10x as many White people make fun of him as I have heard Black people make fun of him. Hell. other than the GOP fanbois on here I don't think I've ever met anyone who even takes him seriously.
