Default Thanks Obama for "Get out to Vote", your getting drafted

thank you all of the new registered voters, more particularly the 18-24 y/o's. You have just been duped into registering for the draft that will soon be coming your way. I would like to go ahead and thank you for your future service to this country and I am sure the military will make you a better person than you are now. Enjoy

Transcript: ServiceNation Presidential Forum at Columbia University

    Quote:
But it?s also important that a president speaks to military service as an obligation not just of some, but of many. You know, I traveled, obviously, a lot over the last 19 months. And if you go to small towns, throughout the Midwest or the Southwest or the South, every town has tons of young people who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. That?s not always the case in other parts of the country, in more urban centers. And I think it?s important for the president to say, this is an important obligation. If we are going into war, then all of us go, not just some.

Registration for the draft is mandatory 30 days after your 18th birthday anyway. If you don't register they can fine you up to $250k (although actual prosecution for not registering is rare) and you are ineligible for just about every gov't program (including Social Security, Pell Grants and other college assistance programs, TANF, Food Stamps, etc). You probably couldn't even get a job because your employer wouldn't be able to do your payroll taxes/Social Security.

The ignorance about the draft really is remarkable.

If you live in GA and have renewed your drivers license since your 18th B-day, guess what, you are fully registered with the selective service. The same is true in about 20 other states.

The President has no control over the draft. First there must be a formal declaration of war passed through both houses of congress. Second, a bill must be passed through both houses to institute the draft. Third, the President must sign off on both bills.

So unless we end up in a real war, dont worry about the draft.

You sure cause I'm gonna be honest I haven't registered for it. I haven't done it cause I don't want to it's just that I keep forgetting to do it. But I haven't got a draft card in the mail or anything so IDK how accurate that info is.

not true at all. We may be on competely differnt sides of the coin on pretty much everything, but I only spent a few hours whining before I got back to reality.

I actually do agree with 1 section of that horribly retarded bill. I think women should be eligable under the selective service also. I know they are not going to end up in combat units, but there are hundreds of non combat jobs per division that must be filled also.

here is the info from the SSS.gov website.

Description of Typical State Driver’s License Legislation

These laws are simple and inexpensive to implement. They instruct the state’s Department of Public Safety or Motor Vehicles to include a consent statement on all applications or renewals for driver’s permits, licenses, and identification cards. The statement tells the applicant that by submitting the application he is consenting to his registration with the SSS, if so required by Federal law. Females are not required to register with SSS under current law. Men 26 years of age or beyond are too old to register.

Transmission of applicant data to the SSS is accomplished electronically through an existing arrangement each state has with the data sharing system of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVAnet) at no extra cost to the state.

Status of State Driver’s License Legislation

As of May 11, 2007, 36 states, 3 territories, and the District of Columbia have enacted driver’s license laws supporting SSS registration. They are: (1) Enacted and Implemented - Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho
    http://www.sss.gov/FSdrivers.htm

like I said, if you have renewed a drivers license in GA, you re already registered.

why is everyone such a p*ssy about the army? Seriously? It's funny how everyone acts all tough but when the draft or war is mentioned, everyone says they will flee or play dead. I dunno, maybe it is b/c my father was in Vietnam and actually contributed to the war.

I'm a skinny little smart kid. The military isn't stupid; they wouldn't put me on the front lines. I would be doing an engineering related job. If the military needs me there, I will pay my debt to my country, no big deal.

Besides, if classes keep going as they are, I wont be out of college before I'm 25 lol jk... I hope.

If it happens it happens. If USA needs me i'm in.

Only reason i'm not in there now is Medical reasons stopped me from passing physical. Draft would solve my problem. That and I didn't agree with the whole "don't shoot unless shot upon" thing, kinda sounded flaky and thought that could get bad, as it already has.

Free housing and a nice pay check for getting shot at. I could deal with that just fine. Hell I deal with it now minus the free housing and pay check.

    Ghetto's suck :/

i dont even know where to start with some of you tards. ALL of you are already registered for the draft. theres not gonna be another draft for a long long time, and if there happens to be one, tough luck. you live here and benefit from all of the GOOD things this country still has to offer, so you should be willing to defend it.

i dont even know where to start with some of you tards. ALL of you are already registered for the draft. theres not gonna be another draft for a long long time, and if there happens to be one, tough luck. you live here and benefit from all of the GOOD things this country still has to offer, so you should be willing to defend it.
yeah someone invades my yard, all our guns will point out the window and pluck them down.

actually I was wrong. The president I has to formally declare an emergency before Congress acts, it is not just a declaration of war. Either way though, both houses have to pass a bill instating the draft.
