LOL LS1? I have a friend doing that conversion in his FD right now. A few cars ago, I had a 94 myself, montego with the touring package. Nice car--but I liked the miata I had before the FD better. So I sold it and got another miata.

We rebuild rotaries where I work, some of the best in the world, for both street and race cars.

el es juan indeed. Mine is a 94 as well. I think the small improvements over the 93's made quite a difference in the overall package. I've always wanted a miata but I wanted some torque and something easy to work on. I figured the FD to be a better, more manageable package for an LS1 but I have dreams of shoehorning one into an NA one day .

Yeah the 94 had some improvements over the 93. If I recall, the 93 had an issue where super hot EGTs would cause stuff to combust and the cars would burn. My 94 had a EGT Overtemp or some such light in the center console. It also had dual airbags, and cost a lot less to insure than the 93. At work we offer "Fire kits" with the solonoids and hoses for people who've had fires in the engine compartment in their 93s.

The 4 banger makes plenty of torque with a snail. Only real downside is it's real spun up on the highway. But that also means if I push the accelerator down only a milimeter on the highway, I instantly get full boost and the thing BOOKS considering it's still in 5th/overdrive. Stock they're slow as dog**** and (IMO) not drivable.

You'd be suprised how easily an LSx engine fits into the miata. There is a company that makes a baller tubular subframe that makes it all possible and easy. Plus it really doesn't weigh any more than the stock engine because it's an iron block/aluminum head vs the all alum LS. I had considered going this route with my silver car. But it's too late and I've already got way too much $$ in the turbo project. BUT if I started over, I'd go LSx with a F body 6 spd.
