Ok, here's the scoop. This is a nearly finished project, and a veritable treasure trove of CB500 parts. Three complete bikes worth, and four engines and sets of carburetors (extras that came with one of the bikes). I've been working on building one really nice bike out of the best parts between all of them. There are enough good parts to put together a second running bike without too much trouble, but some pieces will need replacing.
The frame being built up is an early 1972. The other two bikes are 71s. Bike #1 has had the wiring harness pared down to essentials, just headlight, brake/tail light, and ignition. All the wiring was saved if the new owner needs to add the warning lights back. I'll throw in the shop manual and wiring diagrams. The bottom end of the engine on bike #1 came off of bike #2, which was a fully running, streetable bike when I got it. Leaked oil out of most of the gaskets, so I removed the jugs, replaced the head and base gasket and all of the bad seals, and rebuilt the top end with a fully machined, decked, and valve-jobbed head that came with bike #1. The cylinder walls still had crosshatch and no ridge at the top of the bore, and the rings looked perfect. And the bike didn't smoke before, so it should be good to go. Has a new points plate, too.
Has one perfect set of shaved side covers, one shaved tank that's ready to be painted, and the blue gas tank in the pictures that's really straight. Two seats, one recovered original and one bobbed that I made for it. Engine on bike #1 has a new clutch in it. Has aftermarket cafe bars, pod filters, chrome 4-1 exhaust, and finned aluminum side covers.
Anyway, email me for the rest of the details. For now, all the bike really needs to run and ride is a pair of coils, front brake pads, a master cylinder rebuild kit, and an oil filter. The wiring harness is pretty much installed. I was going to run a swingarm mounted taillight, so that will need to be wired up, or use the stock fender-mounted taillight.
$2000 for everything I have. Can help deliver some of it if you're within 50 miles or so.Great way to get into vintage bikes. New parts can still easily be found for these things on BikeBandit and other online vendors.
