    Default Re-ringing the pistons....

^^ while leaving the motor in the car. Well long story short, My compression on one cylinder is at 60 psi!! I didn't bothering checking the rest and did a wet test on the same cylinder. Doing so I got 90-100ish psi. Could it be bad rings or just that it's been sitting for nearly 9-10 months?

My current set-up is Boosted Ls/vtec. A year ago I got it build and then took out the swap to paint the car in and out. The motor sat for nearly 9-10 months. It was tuned and maintained (Fluilds)and Oil pressure is good.

    Specs:
    Je/SRP 10:0:1
    Eagle Rods
    ARP Rod bolts
    ACL bearing
    3-layer head gasket

I don't think it's bent valve because I also did a wet compression test. Now my friend told me to Re-ring the pistons. Im not trying to be cheap I just can't have my car down any longer after almost a year of working on it and not having a car.

My question is, would you suggest getting the pistons re-ringed without disassembling the motor? What I mean is opening the head and doing it from the bottom end. My friend said I could probably reuse the bearing if they are good but I'll rather buy new ACL bearing. What do you think?

    Thanks, gerardo

You will never get that ring to seal properly doing it that way. It will probably work but it could turn out to be a huge waste of time.

Well I know that if a motor sits for a while your rings could not be seating properly. Fill the cylinders with oil and leave it 24hrs. It may solve your problem.

thats not going to fix a ring sealing problem, oil isn't a magic juice that removes corrosion once its there.

oil will always raise compression numbers. oil is slung on your cylinder walls anyways and that aids in keeping compression consistent.

I have heard of people using Marvel mystery oil on and engine BEFORE trying to turn it over. Letting it sit for a day or so I would imagine.

before putting it together did the measure the cylinders? I think you should just do it right the first time.

Ok people, I finally got the car runnung and the compression shoot up to 180 all across. I guess the compression was low from having my car sitting for almost a year.. Thanks people now i need to tune

I disagree w/ you spoolin, you can get a ring to seal properly w/o it being pulled. I have done it many times.
