Default Please help! thanks! p0136 and p0400!!!

Hey everyone! I am new to the site and i am having issues with my 97 sentra! I have been getting code p0400 and then i clear the code with the obd2 i bought and then anywhee from 20 to 60 miles later i get either the same code again or p0136 will come up. I have been so frusterated. I do all the work on my own car and refuse to take it to a shop and pay labor unless i really have to. I am not gonna just replace every part. i have the bank 1 sensor 2 o2 sensor from autozone costing me 72$. i am gonna try to get a egr from the junk yard and see if that will fix the issue.. Any help and tips would beawesome. Thanks..

The p0400 is a EGR malfunction code. The egr ports could be clogged due to carbon build up. Which you could just clean out. Also, before you replace it, check to see if the lines aren't broken or clogged. Its pretty common that these rubber hoses start to crumble due to age. If thats the problem, its a cheap fix, plus replacing the egr won't help if the lines are the problem. As far as the p0136 code. It could be a bad Cat converter. Replacing the o2 sensor could have fixed it, but sense the egr function is to run exhaust gas back to the intake manifold, maybe its causing the o2 sensor to give a bad reading. Although I'm not sure. The o2 sensor deals with oxygen and I think the egr deals with nitrogen. Don't hold me to that, I'm not a mechanic. Anyway, good luck.
