97 civic with ac problems.

im having some issues with my ac. i have a 97 civic and when i turn on the ac it makes and noise but then goes away. also while driving down the road it will make the noise again for a few seconds and while it does this the car seems to bog a little. its not a belt. what im wondering if its signs of my compressor going out. any help would be great. thanks.

no one has any info on this? the ac works fine but i know that the noise isnt normal.

Like when the compressor kicks on? (you should hear a click)
Or just randomly

If it makes the sound when the compressor cuts on, it seems as though the compressor is trying to lock up.

it makes the noise when first turned on for a few sec. also while going down the road the noise will happen again and i can feel the car bog a little until the noise stops.

this is what i was thinking. like i said the ac works great and blows very cold. the noise starts as soon as i turn the ac on and last about 5-10 sec.

its kind of a loud squel. im sure its not the belt. i've had a belt go bad before. i would think that if it was the belt then it would happen all the time and not stop. a belt shouldnt make the car bog down.
