any codes? and do you have everything wired up like Knock sensor and Iab's? Does it still have the stock manifold or an aftermarket single runner one?

Most likely it's the knock sensor as the P28 don't search for a signal for that sensor as the P72 does .

knock sensor on OBD1 cars dont disable vtec, i had no knock with my GSR in 95 civic/unchipped p72. vtec worked.

maybe the OP original p28 was chipped, and now with a unchipped ecu it is looking for sensors the chip eliminates

    wrong

P28 and JDM is the only ecu's that don't look for the signal

p30 USDM and P72 USDM do so you have to have a knock sensor

nononononononono, i meant with a knock or without it should not disable vtec.

It does if you use P30 USDM or a P72 USDM so with these two ecu's you need a Knock sensor ....If you use a p28 then it will not which is a favor ECU that most use anyways. So why run a P72 anyways?

Also if his butterfly wire isn't hooked up that could also be a issue

oh Josh, you are so missing the point lol

basically what i meant was even though a p30 and p72 search for knock sensor, it does not affect vtec; from my experiences that is
