    Default D16Y5 burning gas

I just put new headers and full exhaust (cat removed) on my 97 civic HX, and now it seems to be burning more gas. Is this normal, or should I have adjusted the air/fuel ratio also?

Its burning more because the cat is removed! Reinstall the cat and it should be back to normal. The hx is the vtec e model it has a factory 5 wire wideband o2 sensor. It needs the cat to work correctly. Im surprised it not throwing a check engine light

It's burning more gas because you like to hear your new exhaust and can't keep your foot out of the throttle.

It's burning more gas because that's usually what an engine does

As silversol said, reinstall the cat.

The check engine light is on now. In order to put the cat back on, I have to put the oem headers back on since they are connected. Is there another way?

Have a muffler shop put you in a cat post-header and run the o2 sensor down to where it needs to be.

Yeah they are one piece, but wouldn't it work to have the cat in the same place as the rest of the Hondas and run the secondary o2 sensor to sit right behind it? That's my thinking.

A TEST pipe has to be installed on these models. no downstream means less efficiency. you will burn more gas. the person that installed the exhaust should have given the header back to you. utilize a cat from a 88-95 civic or 90-01 integra. you will need a bung welded and o2 extender for the downstream sensor.

I do have the old header, but it has a small crack in it. Where is a good place to get a 90-01 integra cat bung welded? Don't know any Honda/Acura places in Henry County.

Yea, they do, but they told me that my Oldsmobile 98 wouldn't sound good with a flowmaster 80 series. THEY STILL INSTALLED IT THOUGH.

    Maybe they were right....

use a spark plug fouler, cut the extended part and save the screw part for your o2 sensor. drill a hole on the exhaust pipe and wield the spark plug fouler on and there you go. a spot for the o2 sensor.

Thanks... I'll give it a shot, bt I think I have a couple of predrilled holes for an O2 sensor.

i believe most exhaust come with atleast one behind the testpipe. if not hten it has to be welded. and you will need to extend the harness for the 02 sensor.
