What to start on a first project?

Wanted to start on a STOCK clean car and just add a few mods.
I do not want to work on a honda/acura.
Would a VW GTI be a hard car to start on?
Any suggestions on a "cheap" stock car(no motor swapping)?

volkswagens suck to work on especially if you have no experience with them..you should probably start off with a honda cause of the availability of parts and the cheap prices of them..but in the end it is you and you should do what you want

Honda is probably the easiest thing to learn on. Before you begin your journey, have a list of goals in mind and do research. What platform; EF, EG, EK? Motor; stock SOHC or DOHC? NA or Boost? Endless possibilities and combinations. Remember, you are learning so a stupid question is a question not asked.

one of my friends said that honda might be the worst things to work on... but i guess im going to stick with either a honda hatchback unless i can find a cheap 240.

240s can get complicated especially for a first project. Honda has a huge fan base to work with and information is plenty.

first off, if you dont want to work on a honda/acura, why post in the section?
second, make up your mind on if you want to work on a honda/acura
third, there are 10 times more parts for a honda/acura compare to other vehicles

a stock hatch run from 2-3 grand, if you cant afford that, hummmm maybe you dont need a project car??????

i think your friend was just hating cuz i just got into working on cars and this sh*t is easy... compared to mistubishi and all that other BS mabe ur homie was trying to sike you into getting somthing other than honda

all cars are easy to work on if you actually know what you are doing. each brand has quirks and tricks to make it easy to the trained, hard to the novice...

are newer hondas easier to work on than newer vw's? yes, if you don't know how to work on vw's. hondas are hard if you don't know vw's...

are OLD vw's easier to work on, absolutely - less of everything and room to spare. are OLD hondas easier to work on, probably not for the novice - ever see the 10,000 vacuum lines on an old CVCC civic?

look at some cars under the hood and some service manuals. see what is easy for you.
