Default ok what would you do

A long story shot i purchased a 2,000 dollar turbo kit only to have some jack ass break into my house and steal a whole lot more than just my turbo kit. So basically i lost like 4,000 so i called home owners insurance so i recieved a check back for 4200. So heres my thing should i build the ka-t or go sr and shoot for 500 hp either way its possible with both motors i know the ka-t requires an extensive build up to attain over 350 hp . But just getting some oppinions cause i am on the verge of not to sure to choose and why .

To get 500hp is gonna cost you some cash either with the KA or the SR. I suggest you doing an all out search on both motors then decide what to do.

Why not go RB? Better torque than the SR, rev's better than the KA-T, and it can do at least 450 on stock internals.

you better do like n rb25, cause there's nothing like putting an old motor into a newer car.

If you do an SR your SR is going to cost you more if you do it right and get a 97/98 SR. If you decide to do a red top then it will only cost about 2500, but then again you're doing an old motor into a newer car.

Don't get me wrong, I like the rb motors but the price of the parts to replace items on the rb is about three times as expensive as an sr. As for the KA-t, there are people around who have put down good numbers and even some ghost tales of some around georgia which noone has ever seen but all the KA-t guys have "heard" of. Yes to put down 500whp get ready to put down some loot. I just got thru building 3 sleeved, race ready sr bottom ends and 2 built heads for this season. If tuned correctly you can get 375-400 with a fully stock motor and everything bolton upgraded, but if you have any lean issues occur it won't take long for the motor to go. Why not a 2jzgte???????????????????? Supra MKIV turbo motor, just a thought....

If he doesn't want to spend the money on an rb25...he wouldn't want to buy a 2j, they're highway robbery for those. If you do it right and get an supra 6-speed. You could always get one out of a soarer with an auto, but it's still more than a rb25

Just picked a morset up for 1700.00 with harness and modding a different trans to put on it for the 240. Why not a t56 trans???????????? Also I wasn't refering to the cost of the motorset I was refering to the price and waiting period for the rb20,25,26 parts.

this is kinda related, but which has more power the black top or red top? what is the differance? besides the color there must be something different.

    they're the "same"

blacktops have cooling fins on the block/head right under the valve cover.

8000 is a lot, either you got ripped off, or you have done hefty amount of mods. Does that 8 grand include the price of the motor set you used? just motor mods, or everything included...electronics, gauges, stuff like that?

I ask because I'm starting to build my s13 and I really hope it doesn't get up to 8 grand in motor work.

Your wrong there my friend. If you know where to look you can build a meaner KA-T for $4-5k than you can an SR20.

I haven't switched sides, If I had 5k, I'd go bad ass KA-T over the SR. I go through phases, you'll see my new KA-T soon. 8k, would be awesome to dump into a KA-T.

The difference is that the black top s13 motors were made 94 and up and s13 red top was made in the earlier car. When they decided to extend production of the s13 chassis they had already changed the color for the valve cover and decided to make them black top to denote the generation of s13. The s14 black top has the hump in the valve cover.

4-5 k plus the motor. After all the parts which will run from 2500-3000 then you have to get the block worked and head worked by a machine shop, then if you don't put it together you have to pay some else to.

They're quicker than your SR 230 to the wheels on a stock swap, why not? The parts are there, you just gotta know where to look.

    You'd put a motor from a 1989 into your car from 1997 or 98?

    That's stupid.

    Why go with something old.

If I was in your shoes, I'd turbo a KA before going RB20.
