    Default F150 SVT

i am probably getting a F-150 SVT lightning soon. one that i am interested in has about 108000 miles. i heard that the engines are usually no good past 100,000 because they are supercharged and especially if they have been driven hard. just asking for any opinions from anyone who has experience with lightnings
    appreciate it

I wouldn't buy one with that many miles unless its just a steal of a deal.

Yeah it would be hard for me buy a FI vehicle with that many miles with expecting to rebuild the motor soon.

I used to own an '02..

Forget what people are saying about the mileage. These trucks have the same fucking motor as a regular f150 escept for a forged cranks and different pistons.

These motors are known to go 200k+ before blowing up.

IMO the only reason I can see a motor go out at only 100k on these is running more boost than you should and poor tuning.

The weak point of that motor is the rods that cant handle a lot of boost(anything pas 12lbs is playing with fire). These motors wear really well. I have seen the cylinder walls of a lighting with 70k on it and it still showed the crosshatch everywhere.

If you run stock boost, the motor will last for a very very long time.

BTW: what year lightning ? the 99's had a recall on the intercooler that is prone to leak. If the guy hasnt had it fixed then it's too late to get it for free and a new intercooler costs $600

Another issue with these trucks is that sometime the spark plugs come loose and come out of the heads due to improper tightening. If that happens youll need to have inserts installed in the heads to cure the problem. (that did happen to me) Check for loose plugs every 10k miles. I didnt and should have. if ou buy a 2003 or a 2004, it will have the new heads on it that have more threads and then that wont be an issue.

Overall these are awesome trucks and I would not be deterred but 108k miles unless the price wasnt right.

If it a stock truck, clean and needs no repairs, then go for it.

BTW: tires cost a lot of money on these $200-250 each, no kidding.

Private seller + Great Price (Considering possible repairs) =
Stealership + Above average Price (Unless there's one hell of a Warranty) =

I have an 03 white one w/ 56k on it. Hotchkis lowered and 8k HID's only mods. I really like mine. I use it as a daily driver and have not had a minutes trouble out of it. I personally would not buy a 99-00 model. If you can afford it go with an 02-03.

The 99-00 had different headlights, corner light, grills, they have a different steroe. No compass in and temp in the roof console.

The 01-04's have 3:73 gearing and the 99-00 have 3:55 gearing.

It's enough that some people with 3:55 want to swap in 3:73 gears.

The motor was a shitload weaker in 99. Didnt they also have serious oil leaking problems back then too? I've love an 01 or 02 Lightning, the ones with the lower suspension (was it 03 or 04 where they jacked the truck up?).

No oil leaks but the intercoolers were leaking in the 99-00 L's
