Fun car. That's a good year to get, they upgraded the turbo in 2002. I have not had problems with mine.

put it this way w/ under 1000$ you can approx make 220+whp/270+lbs... you can't do that w/ many cars...

biggest problem buying euro is electronics and cost of parts... i would suggest having warranty to 100k or enough funds to cover repairs of german engineering. overall though i wouldn't own anything but german.

Yeah, you should totally get it. Kickass engine. Parts for european cars can seriously cost a lot of money, but if you can afford a fairly new car the difference in price won't affect you too much. I kinda feel bad - I'm doing the opposite of you. I'm thinking of going from a Volkswagen to a Honda.

All you really need to get to start with is a chip. They aren't that exspensive compared to other things, and will give you a serious increase in power. After that, a good exhaust and maybe a front mount intercooler and it will be pretty quick.

Now this is more along the lines of a once every two weeks kinda thing, but I want to replace it. I can't find it anywhere! Performance parts also cost a lot of money for me. I mean, a Neuspeed cat-back exhaust costs like $650. This is why I'm considering a Honda/Acura.

dude thats why you research before you buy crap... i paid 0$ for my exhaust but it would of cost anyone under 200$ from any muffler shop. it made more power then most of the 1.8t exhaust on the market

Straight pipe. My mechanic was saying your going to get very little horsepower from a cat back so just put a hi flo resonator and take out the muffler.

you don't make much from a exhaust to begin w/ but i did 2.5" cat back to a single in/out flow master... it make 5whp/11lbs on my 1.8t... the DP(header) will make cars more power normally

Interesting. Are you going to the varsity meet on the 23rd or the VWvortex one on the 21st. I will be at both.

you can put a boost gauge, BOV are a no no, VW us divertor valves (DV).... manual boost control is a no no as well unless you know what you are doing and you aren't fucking w/ shit.

I maxed out the 'bolt-on' power on my 1.8t b4 I sold it. Made about 220whp/280wtq w/ a chip and bolt-ons ... but the crave for more power was eating at me. Had to sell it and step up my game.

Get a MBC ... your boost will be more instant and consistent. It'll also get rid of boost spike. I ran an MBC 100% of the time and it never gave me problems.
