Default ?? knocking motor, d16z, piston movement

ok, it was missing the bearing completly, i tore down the bottom end....now i know they say you can replace the bearing from the bottom but i was able to put top and bottom bearing in, but the piston still has a lot of play (meaning), when i put the piston back together and had it torqued down it still had about a 1/16" of movement ??????? does this piston sound bad?
i dont know what i'm doing, first of all. is this something i can tear down and just replace that one piston? i just happen to have all the parts for this at home just wanted a little insite on this before i waisted my time. now on another note
the car wont stay running when gas is applied??? timing??? the timming is dead on where it was when the car was running good. now i'm pretty sure the altenator is bad sence the car is only running about 5min with fully charged battery, then it dies and battery is dead, but would and altenator make the car cut out when you give it gas or pull it out of gear? it diesnt die every time you give it gas just when first started up??????? HELP

like i said i dont know what i'm doing, but if you are looking at the piston from the bottom where it bolts to the crank all the pistons are very tightly fit in there, but this one has a movement in it so at the bottom next to the crank, back and forth aas well as up and down
