I have a 99 Honda Accord V6. Basically when it is real hot outside.. like 90 degrees plus, it cranks but does not start. When it is cool outside I have no problem with it. It is not the battery. Somebody know what it is that is causing the failure?

It doesnt start at all or will it start after a couple of tries?Originally Posted by xaznstylegrlx
its your main relay. it controls the fuel...when its not working properly your car will turn over because your starter is turning the motor but it wont supply any fuel. its a very commong problem w/ accords especially w/ 4th and 5th gens but now i guess the 6th gens are affected too.
probably wanna replace it or take it out and find a good electronics repair shop to clean the circuit board and re solder all of the connections.
its located on your steering column under the drivers side dash.
well.. if i sit and wait in the burning sun for about 20 min it will eventually start. See the thing is.. the car starts fine when its not hot outside..But when it is, I have to try for about a good 10 - 20 min before it will turn on. Or sometimes it turns on and then turns right back off. The relay has been suggested by a few people... but does the heat have a big impact on the circuit not working right?
bring it to me. I'll fix it for ya.
yep it sure does surprisingly. it causes the soldering to get weak and messes up the conductivity.Originally Posted by xaznstylegrlx
if it was a 300zx id say it the ignitor but i havent heard that from hondas yet. the main relay makes sense though bc the bi-metallic stip that makes contact might get weak when it too hot.
my 240 had the same problem.
i fixed it by new o2 sensor and resetting my tps.
my crx has the same problem. havent had a problem recently though. i was told it could be the ground wire comming from the head to the frame. i changed that and it seems to work better...but not 100%

throttle position sensor, i fixed a neon with the same problem....thought it was the fuel pump or evap sensor.....but it could be numerous things, i would look into each of the suggestions you were given tho

I'm almost positive its the main relay....the symptoms are it wont start when its hot. a bad TPS wouldn't keep it from cranking only when its hot.
i was thinkin the same thing when i was checkign this neon, thats why i was suprised when my other friend suggested the tps, i fixed it and now it works...but yeah, sounds like the main relay, it always hardfixing a car over the net LOL, let us know how it goes

I tried to bring it to one shop and they charged me 1,500 to fix shit.. because they ended up causing more things to go wrong with my car. I brought the car in for the tranny shifting not smoothly and the car not turning on once a week. Now the car doesn't turn on like at least once a day and it makes a funky turning noise (was not there before) and it also doesn't go to D1 or D2 anymore (these gears worked before). AND ALSO the car died on the road the day I got it back, and that has never happened to me before and they said it was the shifter cable. I got them to fix the noise and the shifter cable. And so I am going to bring the car back for it not shifting to D1 and D2 problem tomorrow. By the way... WARNING!!!! DO NOT GO TO SPEEDY TRANSMISSION ON BUFORD HWY. THEY FUCK UP EVERYTHING THEY FIX.
So back to the point, name a shop that knows their stuff and can fix the problem, whatever it might be, without over charging me.
wow, they charged you 1500 only to give your car back to you in worse condition?
LOL did you get bagged.. wow.
if its something as simple as not starting in the heat, you just need to check the tps, o2 sensor, your connections, and your ignition system.
most importantly, go in that order.
easiest to get to to harder to hardest.
good luck...
if you're trying to find a shop that could fix it for you.. its gonna cost you a pretty penny since it'll require so much troubleshooting, especially with your new tranny problem.
