Ok, me and a friend of mine disagree on something, and I want people on here to tell me who is right. I ONLY WANT PEOPLE TO REPLY WHO ARE 100% CERTAIN WITH THEIR ANSWER. links to websites with explainations would be great.
The question is about how the Sprocketgear on a 1spd transmission (from a pocketbike, bicycle, other things like that) will affect top end. The gear that attatches directly to the engine/power source will be called the pinion gear, and I am just going to say that it has 10 teeth, and will not change for this problem. Now the question is - If you make the SPROCKET gear (one attached to the wheel) BIGGER (more teeth) will the Top speed got UP or DOWN?
If you make the sprocket gear smaller (less teeth) will the Top speed go Up or Down?
My answer to this is that a bigger sprocket gear will cause more acceleration, and less top end. a smaller one will cause less acceleration, and more top end.
My friend thinks it is just the opposite of that.
I am about 99% sure that I am correct, unless for my whole life i have just been completely wrong about it. But think about how on a bike, when you shift from first, to second, the chain drops down onto the smaller sprocket gear, so it will have more top end.
I will trust your answer a lot more if you explain it, or better send me a link to a website that explains it.
