Halfshaft might be from an AUTOMATIC, then the bolt pattern is different.

If it wont slide in the tranny, then if hes using a HYDRO tranny with a CABLE TRANNY halfshaft, you MUST switch the AXLE seals out. IE

    Hydro Tranny with HYDRO Halfshaft
Hydro Tranny with Cable Halfshaft and Cable Tranny axle seals
Cable Tranny with Hydro Halfshaft and Hydro Axle seals

if you dont have the right combo, then the shaft will only slide in with about .5in left an you wont be able to get it in an bolt it to the block
