What year is it, because there is a difference from 02,03 and 04,06

Sentra SE-R Receives Improvements For 2004

For 2004, the sport-inspired Sentra SE-R receives several body enhancements, including a new front and rear fascia, new headlamp shapes, restyled hood and two new exterior colors. The 2004 Sentra SE-R also upgrades its interior with a standard trip computer and a new charcoal fabric exclusive to SE-R models and adds an impressive Brembo“ Brake Package solely for the Sentra SE-R Spec V model.

Originally produced from 1991 to 1994, the Sentra SE-R immediately gained recognition with the automotive media becoming Car and Driver "10 Best" winner four times and an Automobile "All-Star" twice. It also became a favorite among autocrossers and grassroots racers and developed a large enthusiast base with numerous nationwide clubs, magazine project vehicles and motorsports activities. Sentra SE-R left after the 1994 model year, but was brought back in 2002, much to the delight of enthusiasts across the nation.

The Addition of the New Interior Features

The SE-R Spec V features a special Lava-colored interior with black and silver accents, which is accompanied by a special instrument meter finish with skyline-style sport bucket seats (SE-R Spec V). The 2004 Sentra SE-R continues to offer power windows and door locks, conveniently placed cup holders and a substantial amount of storage capacity and storage pockets including a stylish center-console with lid and a large glove box.

The large, race-style front bucket seats feature an 8-way adjustable driver seat and 4-way adjustable passenger seat to suit occupants’ needs. The seat design provides an open feeling through use of a large, one-piece cut pattern around the shoulder area and the raised hip point aids in easier entry and exit. A 60/40 split fold-down rear seat with locking seat back is now standard.

    Power

Powering the Sentra SE-R is a 16 valve 2.5-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine producing 175 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm and 180 lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 rpm in the SE-R Spec V model and 165 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm and 175 lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 rpm in the SE-R. SE-R Spec V gains 10 horsepower and five lb-ft torque over the standard SE-R with the use of a specially tuned exhaust system.

The Sentra SE-R engine utilizes technology developed for the award-winning VQ-series engines found in the Maxima and Altima sedans, including a modular engine design, molybdenum coated lightweight pistons, micro-finished crank journals and cam lobes, electronically controlled throttle and continuously variable valve timing.

    Braking and Suspension

Sentra SE-R’s suspension has been tuned to provide a maximum amount of performance and ride comfort. There are two levels of suspension tunings available, corresponding with model choices – the standard SE-R and the ultimate, track-oriented SE-R Spec V. All SE-Rs feature front independent MacPherson struts and Nissan’s patented rear Multi-Link Beam™design.

SE-R Spec V builds upon the SE-R’s handling capabilities. Front spring rates increase 15 percent (over SE-R) and the rear spring rate increases 16 percent. High-performance 215/45ZR17 tires on special 17-inch wheels complete the suspension package and give Sentra a tough, sport-compact look.

Braking is provided by large 4-wheel disc brakes – the fronts measure a full 11 inches, larger than many so-called sporting machines. A 4-wheel, 4-channel, 4-sensor Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is also available.

A high-performance Brembo Brake Package new for 2004, is offered on the SE-R Spec V model. The exclusive package includes gold-painted Brembo 4-piston front calipers, 12-inch Brembo vented front discs and 10.9-inch rear discs.

    Review: 2002 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V

DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH CAREY RUSS

``SE-R'' is a magic name to Nissan performance enthusiasts, used
for the hot version of the Sentra from 1991 through 1994. That 140-
horsepower, 2.0-liter pocket rocket brought Nissan performance at a
reasonable price, and built a following that continues to this day. The
original SE-R has been mourned ever since its demise, but the time
for mourning is over. There's a new SE-R, and it's even stronger
    than the original.
Actually, two models of the 2002 Nissan Sentra SE-R are
available. Both have a pugnacious look based on the current Sentra,
but with inspiration from the legendary Nissan Skyline. The regular
    SE-R backs it up with a 165-horsepower 2.5 liter four-cylinder
engine. If that's not quite enough, the SE-R Spec V adds special
engine tuning, for 175 horses and 180 lb-ft of torque, and a beefed-
up suspension for even sportier handling.
I drove a Sentra SE about a year ago, and, with its 145-
horsepower 2.0-liter engine, found it to be very reminiscent of the
old SE-R. But the SE is a weakling compared to the new SE-R.
Especially in Spec V trim, it is a very worthy successor to the
original. And it has more power, a higher level of equipment, and
way more attitude. There is very little subtlety with the Spec V. The
Spec V name is derived from the hottest Skyline, the GTR V-Spec,
and, while the Spec V is nowhere near the beast that the V-Spec
Skylines were, it is more than just another ``pocket rocket.'' Call it a
``pocket muscle car'' instead, as in looks, specification, and action,
it emphasizes performance over all else. It's not unrefined; in fact it
is quite comfortable, even practical. It just hasn't had its elemental
rawboned character refined out of it. It will only add to the SE-R
    reputation.

APPEARANCE: The original Sentra SE-R had few styling features
that announced its performance. The new model takes a different
approach. While it shares most of its body panels with the other
Sentra models, which means that it has a rounded profile not unlike
the original Altima and the current Maxima, the SE-R gets a bolder
front bumper and fascia, styled with a nod to the Skyline and
featuring a smaller lower intake and more prominent foglamps. The
result is compact and muscular, like an automotive bulldog. Slightly
smoked plastic headlamp covers give Southern California sport-
compact style. Lower side-sill extensions are continued at the rear,
with a cutout for the twin exhausts. The rounded Sentra tail, with a
high arched character line integrating the tail lights, is decked with a
small wing spoiler. Badging behind the front wheels and on the tail
    proclaims its identity. The regular SE-R has 16-inch alloy wheels;
the Spec V gets 17s and ultra-low profile tires.

COMFORT: The SE-R inherits the regular Sentra's roomy and
comfortable interior, and adds performance style. The Spec V adds
more, with a ``Lava'' red and black interior color scheme, echoed in
the red-lit instruments, unique sport seats, a thick-rimmed leather-
wrapped tilt-adjustable steering wheel, and titanium-look plastic
trim, including an ergonomically-designed shift knob. The manually-
adjustable front seats are among the best in the SE-R's class for
comfort and support, and the rear seat has more space than expected
in a small car. The four-door body style, versus the two doors of the
original, means that the rear seat is easily accessible. With the
    ``Audio Fanatic'' option package, a trunk-mounted subwoofer
means that only the left side of the rear seat folds, but that is still
useful. The trunk is large enough that the subwoofer has a minimal
impact on capacity, and its speaker is protected from cargo.

SAFETY: Like all Sentras, the SE-R Spec V has front and rear
crumple zones and side-guard door beams. All seating positions have
three-point safety belts. Side airbags and antilock brakes are
    available.

ROADABILITY: The Sentra SE-R Spec V succeeds at a difficult
task: balancing sports handling with decent comfort at a reasonable
price. Like the regular SE-R, the Spec V has an independent
MacPherson strut front suspension and Nissan's patented ``Multi-
Link Beam'' rear suspension, anchored to a rigid structure enhanced
by a front strut tower brace. But the Spec V gets stiffer front and
rear springs, with matching shocks, and 45-series profile tires on 17-
inch alloy rims. Those specs can be a recipe for harshness on real-
world roads if not done correctly. Fortunately, Nissan did it right.
The Spec V's ride quality is firm, but not uncomfortable, and it's
great fun in corners. A standard limited-slip differential ensures good
traction. Mash the throttle, and there is some torque steer (because
there is plenty of torque), but consider that part of the Spec V's
pocket muscle car character. It's never boring.

PERFORMANCE: Despite its Japanese ancestry, the Sentra SE-R
Spec V has the soul of an American muscle car. Nissan has taken the
classic American path toward power: cubic inches. There is no
replacement for displacement, and the SE-R's 2.5-liter engine is one
of the largest in its class. Its 175 horsepower at 6000 rpm puts it
near the top of its class for horsepower, and 180 lb-ft of torque at
4000 rpm puts it ahead of any direct competitor for pure grunt. The
16-valve, dual overhead cam four-cylinder engine is a new design
that uses technology from Nissan's VQ-series vee sixes as found in
the Maxima and Pathfinder. Continuously-variable valve timing helps
it make great power right from a standstill all the way to redline, and
dual balance shafts keep vibration to a minimum. The regular SE-R
has a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission, but
the Spec V gets a slick-shifting close-ratio six speed manual only.
It's the best choice for performance, anyway.

CONCLUSIONS: Nissan did more than merely revive the name with
the 2002 Sentra SE-R. It builds on the character of the original, with
    far more performance.

No problems, excp. starting problem. When you run the car hard and you turn it off for about 20-30 min. and you crank it again , sometime's it dont wanna start right away(fuel pump) i guess the spec's have bad fuel pumps. The cd player is not good quality either, the CD's get stuck but eveything else is good. Fun car's to drive.

ok that appreciate that. im not even sure, i just opened the paper this morning and saw it in the paper..the paper reads:

"NISSAN '02 Sentra SER Spec V, 41k mi, 6spd manual, Gd Cond. $6995,phone number"

im just hoping that they left everything stock, what im worried about the most is the clutch, the person not knowing how to drive manual and messing it up, ya know

Pros: you can beat civics, good gas mileage, a nice looking car, can boost it and spank me, LSD

Cons: Not in my level yet, will lose to a rsx-s, not good with bolt ons, redlines at 6200rpm, six speed does not really help you, list goes on bro just research stop being lazy.

phat there is one thing to consider with the '02s...there is no gate on the reverse...but that was just me being a n00b maunal driver worrying about that...

a pro with a Spec V...it is fun as hell to drive...and it even has 4 doors so the insurance company wont rape you so bad...you can fit more than 2 people in the car without having to worry about leaning seats up to let them in and out...they have a 6 speed...

One bad thing is that I have hear some people complain about the VQ25...and I think on some of the 02-03 models has this werid ass oil fire recall thing on them...

    I really enjoy my 05 Spec V...

The fire problem they said only happens when you dont keep your oil lvls up correctly, which eventdently is hard for some people to understand...

7k is pretty good for an 02 with only 40k on it though...

I would get the newest looking one, since I heard that they come with better trannys and a better motor.

    You mean 02-03!

You can always do a conversion. Hood/head lights/bumper and few more things. I did that to my old 04, coast me under $600 painted and eveything.

Yeah true, few bolts(i/h/e) and you should be even with the rex's.

I beat my friend by a half a car.

They havent changed the over all car since '04 other than just alil bit here and there...

The '02-'03 has the better looking front end of them and the gear box doesnt have a gate for reverse...

The '04-'06 have the not so good looking front...plus better tranny and engine, and with the added gate for reverse in the gear box. IMO the '04-'06 models feel more solid than the '02-'03 model...

I personally think that the 05 with the NISMO lip on the front looks better than the 02-03 front end...
