    Default 240SX timing

    I have a 1990 Nissan 240SX SE, SOHC

im suspecting the timing is off on the car beacuse when ever i rev it the rpm really bogs up and when the car gets to 1000rpm or lower it just dies out

how do I fix the timing problem for the car, I cant get out of the car more than 1 min without it shutting off

the question is, how do I adjust the timing?

undo the bracket that holds the distirbutor down and turn it when the car is running with a timing light on the crank and get it into the specs written on the hood or on rad support

sounds like your idle air control valve.

would that also be the reason why the car feels so weak and the RPMs bog up?

Bogging is usually timing.. but having to keep your foot on the gas to keep it idling sounds like a IACV. Usually an IACV will only causes problems when starting/idling

would the IAVC also cause the car to have trouble starting?

Yes. Sometimes if its not working right youd have to hold the accelerator down to start hte car.

if u remove it sometimes you can use some brake clean and get them to un-stick..

Alright well I figured out where the IACV was and tried cleaning it with WD40
Im just waiting to go get some liquid gasket and maybe some carb cleaner

I was looking at the ECU and I noticed on the back there was a idle speed/control thing you can turn with a flat head, should I adjust that? Ive never heard anyone else speaking about that.

Also, I have a SOHC, where is the EGR valve, and could I just cap it off?
