i was wondering what the best ways to clean rusted rotors are. i use a wire wheel on it then turn it but is there any better way to get the rust off. like soaking it in something.

yeah that actually works too. its just water that has sat on your brakes. drive and it will go away.
i'm talking about all the rust where the pad doesn't touch it. so i can paint it black with high temp paint and then it won't rust anywhere.

sander?
i already wire wheeled it. i'm talking about soaking it in a type of acid or something that would eat up the iron oxide.

glad i could help
Playing devil's advocate here, but wouldn't it be cheaper to just get a new set of rotors? Usually you can pick up some for pretty cheap, can't you?
Just wondering if the trouble of an acid bath, uninstall, reinstall, paint, etc is not more than new rotors.
my rotors are 90 dollars each. and there is nothing wrong with these i just want to clean them.

Ok, but you're not factoring in the time and money for doing the alternative.
How much is that gal of acid thing? About $30, right? Well, when you factor in the install/uninstall labor stuff or your time.....is that close to that $90 mark?
I'm not trying to argue at all, just wondering really. If you're gonna do it all yourself, then it will be less expensive the other way. If you're paying to do it, I'm not so sure.
Good luck either way.![]()
i can take the rotors off in about 10-15 minutes and i don't have money to waste on new ones anyway. the time for the work doesn't matter.

Then that acid stuff and you doing it is your ticket my friend. I stand corrected.![]()
Turning should take care of it

once again as i stated earlier that's a completely seperate part of the rotor.Originally Posted by Kelly_Rene
here is an example of what needs cleaned. the yellow parts would be rusting on this rotor if they weren't painted. except i want black.
