Crank Pulley Help

I have been hearing a mild "wobble-chirp" (Best description I can give) when my engine is running, cold or opp. temp. I took a look under the hood to see if it was a belt that was loose but I noticed that the Crank Pulley had a slight wobble to it. I did some research into replacement and found this in the AEM FAQs...

"Why doesn’t AEM make a crank pulley?"

"Virtually all of the cars we make Tru-Power pulleys for come equipped with a vibration dampener mounted to the crank from the factory. Aftermarket crank pulleys require the removal of these dampeners, which are required for engine life. Their removal can cause damage to your engine over time. If the manufacturers could save on vehicle costs by eliminating this device they would have done so."

This leaves me stumped. Any suggestions?

Most crank pulleys have a slight wobble to them. Try tighting the belt or just replacing the belt. If that doesnt help post up if its still doing the same noise.

I also hear a chirping noise from my motor, but its not from the crank pulley side, ehh I dunno but its not a loose belt. I'm using the OEM CTR crank pulley, does that come w/ the vibration dampener?

I'm not quite sure what your question is, but i would at least try to pull and re-set the pulley. I wouldn't go for that "pulleys wobble on a lot of engines" post. What might be a slight wobble to you may be a death wobble to someone else. If your pulley is wobbling you'll be ok for the short term... but eventually it will help to warp your crank.

If you were asking about the damper system... Some cars are fine with aftermarket, undersized, or un dampened pulleys. It really depends on the application. Placing an undampened crank pulley in the mix puts the crank under the stress of impact and vibration it wasn't exposed to before.(well it was, but they were damapened) It's not going to be an instantaneous affect unless your crank is already in shitty condition. From what i understand it's internal impacts such as detonation that the dampening system is made for.

ATI pulleys really arent for street use, and youll see no benefit from them IMO especially on a stock engine.

I personally run the OEM HONDA CTR N1 CRANK PULLEY. its balanced from the factory an i have used it on 3 of my motors and a bunch of customers with no issues what so ever.

I Agree, NO crank pulley should WOBBLE, check it out ASAP as that is a MAJOR cause to rod an main bearing failure.

well damn, that explains why it's so much lighter I thought it was just a differant alloy that made the weight savings. Good thing i didn't order one because i like keeping the A/C and PS

Well the CTR made it convenient for me cause CRXs' don't come w/ P/S & after swapping the stock motor I haven't had A/C since because Jdm B16s don't come w/ it. I sweat like a pig in the summer though! :confused:

I appreciate the input guys. However I would like to keep AC and PS so the CTR is out of the question.

I'm going to try replacing all of the belts and unbolt then rebolt the crank pulley to see if that keeps it to a minimal. I'll also take a video of it when I can so that you can see the degree of wobble that it has.

Any aftermarket pulley available besides the "ATI" pulley?
