    Default clutch issues with 98zx7r

I am a new rider and have a question about my 98 zx7r. When I am shifting gears you can hear a loud click. My friend heard it and said it sounded like I was shifting before I pulled the clutch, but it still does it with the clutch all the way in. The bike also lunges a little bit when you drop it into first from neutral, and it will lunge a little when you start it in first with the clutch pulled in. I this normal or what is wrong? Please help.

If it really bothers you then adjust the clutch cable. Where is the clutch starting to grab? If its near the end of the lever travel then you need to tighten up the cable a little. It should move a little when going into first but it shouldn't roll if you let off the brake on level ground, if it does your clutch isn't fully disengaging and probably just needs to be adjusted. And shifting without pulling the clutch isn't bad as long as you let off the throttle when doing so.

it is a hydraulic clutch, and it starts to grab about right in the middle. there is no slipping or grinding, it just makes a loud click when upshifting as the gears are engaging.

It should make a clicking noise as you change gears, thats the ratchet mechanism resetting for the next gear. If it engages in the middle and doesn't ever slip then its working properly.
