pull off the air filter and put a plastic bag on the trottle body or end of the pipe with a rubber band and just don't spray directly on any electrical connecters or back of headlights (may result in blown bulbs if water gets in the light) You really shouldn't even use much if any water pressure...just take the nozzle off and let the water flow out the hose with light pressure. For the paint under the hood use glass cleaner mixed with hot water and a little bit of simple green...spray then rinse and wipe then rinse.
