I've heard of crankwalk issues with 2Gs (95-99). Check out club3g.com for more opinions other than my own. However, I have never had the slightest hint of trouble with my '01 GS. The 4G64 motor (3G Eclipse, Galant, Neon SRT-4) is extremely reliable. For 6 months I ran 9 psi, now pushing 18 psi boost through it without the slightest hint of issues. On club3g there are documented cases of stock blocks pushing 360hp and people who Force feed the car past 100k miles (mine is at 88k now).

People hate on the 3g, and some of their opinions are quite true, it's hard to tinker with, parts are less available than 2gs, no AWD models, etc. But I think most will agree that the engine will be the least of your worries so long as it is properly maintained.
